Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Staring suspiciously at people/things was a great quality bonding time activity.

"I ain't the one who showed up to teach teenagers wearing in a space suit." Eliot scowled at the various weaponry he'd spotted. "Or armed." Come on now. "With guns."

Because let's be honest, Eliot had at least four knives on him, right now.

Wash gave him a distinctly clinical once over. "Because you're not armed either."

Wash mirrored that action, tilting his head. "I wasn't exactly briefed on the parameters of the mission before I got here."

"The mission." Oh this just kept getting better. "You're here under orders." He knew better than to ask "from whom?" If that were information Wash could give, there'd be a clear insignia on his armor.

"No, I'm here because I want to mold young minds," Wash replied, pouring all the sarcasm he could muster into it.

"Aren't you supposed to be helping me?" Wash asked. "Or did the word 'buddy' change in the past?"

Oh, and he was from the future too (which admittedly, Eliot could have guessed). This just kept getting better.

"Guess I wasn't too clear on the mission parameters either." He smirked. "Look, armor admittedly ain't a terrible idea around here. But if you hurt any of these kids, I'll kill you."

Armor or no.

"You'll try," Wash corrected. "And I wouldn't hurt a kid. I actually have morals."

Paranoid ones, but still.

"Uh huh," Eliot said, not sounding like he believed him very much. "So do you know what you're teachin' yet, or have you not caught up on your 'mission parameters' yet?"

"Tactics and teamwork." Which was kinda hilarious if you asked Wash. But no one asked him.

He was almost finding Eliot's attitude amusing at this point.

Hey now, Eliot was totally amusing.

And had a serious, well-earned distrust of soldiers.

"Good luck with that. I'm pretty sure the last one who tried to teach teamwork around here was a pony." He wasn't sure of that at all. He mostly just wanted to point the pony out and see what this guy's reaction was.

Well, that sucked for him because he couldn't even see Wash's expression change! So nyah.

"Yes, and pudding dragons. I've been warned."

No, he wasn't going to say by who. He was just going to be cryptic and mysterious. That'll earn him trust.

Aww, but he might aim something at her!

And honestly, the pudding dragon thing could've been just about anyone. The perverse pleasure at watching the new guy's head explode caught on quick.

"I think I missed those," Eliot admitted. "But my team and I went out of town for about a week."

Eliot would actually be somewhat impressed if Wash identified them. He didn't even know what kind of team to look for.

"You want a hint?" he asked.

"Not necessary." He'd work it out sooner or later. Also the moment he discovered radio. Oh god, the moment he discovered radio.

Oddly enough, Wash had no problem cheating on this.

"Unless they attack me first." Just so they were clear.

It wasn't like they were going to find Wash sleeping naked in Eliot's attic, but Parker did tend to be pretty free with her taser.
