Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Well, that sucked for him because he couldn't even see Wash's expression change! So nyah.

"Yes, and pudding dragons. I've been warned."

No, he wasn't going to say by who. He was just going to be cryptic and mysterious. That'll earn him trust.

Aww, but he might aim something at her!

And honestly, the pudding dragon thing could've been just about anyone. The perverse pleasure at watching the new guy's head explode caught on quick.

"I think I missed those," Eliot admitted. "But my team and I went out of town for about a week."

"Your team."

"That's what I said."

"Hmmm."

Agent Washington was kind of a dick.

Eliot was noticing that, yes.

"What."

"Oh, nothing." Nothing at all. He was just going to look through the crowd now. No big deal.

Lookin' for Eliot's team.

Eliot would actually be somewhat impressed if Wash identified them. He didn't even know what kind of team to look for.

"You want a hint?" he asked.

"Not necessary." He'd work it out sooner or later. Also the moment he discovered radio. Oh god, the moment he discovered radio.

Getting it from radio was cheating, dammit. Also pretty inevitable.

"Just so you know, they're also off limits. For the hurting."

"Sure."

Oddly enough, Wash had no problem cheating on this.

"Unless they attack me first." Just so they were clear.

"Right," Eliot agreed. ". . . Define 'attack'."

It wasn't like they were going to find Wash sleeping naked in Eliot's attic, but Parker did tend to be pretty free with her taser.

"Any variety of assault on my person or possessions." He liked to think that covered a lot.

Eliot sighed heavily through his nose. There was no way he was going to convince Parker not to steal anything from this guy.

"What if she promises to give it BACK?"

"Right, I'm going to booby-trap my quarters."

JUST FOR THAT.

"Oh sure, give her a challenge." Maybe he could just not TELL Parker about Wash.

"I'm from about five hundred years in your future. It might be interesting."

Yeah, Eliot was definitely going to try 'not telling her'.

"So you've gotten real good at non-lethal booby traps then, right?"

"Sure." You could almost hear the smile in his voice.

Eliot sighed again. "You'd better."

Wash nodded, patting the air next to Eliot's arm. "Good talk."

Well. At least he was clever enough not to try touching Eliot.

"So yeah. Teachin'. Don't get the kids killed and you'll be fine."

No one needed a fist-fight at the picnic. They'd end up in a pile of glitter, Eliot. A pile of glitter.

"I was planning to drop them into live combat situations, but in that case..."

"Use the Danger Shop, then. It's got safety protocols. All the adrenaline, none of the broken bones or sucking chest wounds."

Wash was possibly kidding. Eliot was not.

"That's... not bad advice. Thank you."
