Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Mabel gasped aloud when she looked at the roommate listing.

"Eric?! Ohmygosh!"

A boy! She had to share a room with a boy! That wasn't Dipper!

"I wonder if he likes pigs?"

Waddles didn't seem half as concerned about this as she was.

... Switch around the names and that was pretty much Eric's reaction to finding out he had to room with a girl.

He was looking around wide-eyed when he spotted the girl with the pig, and...

"Ohmygosh, he's so cute!" he squeaked, crouching down to get a better look at Waddles.

Oh, Mabel liked you already, Eric.

"His name is Waddles," she proudly declared, holding him up so that Eric could get a better look. "And he says Hello!"

Well, actually, he snorted and snuffled his little pig snoot up toward the boy curiously. But that was almost the same, right?

"Yes, I'm pleased to meet you as well," Eric said, nodding at Waddles. "My name's Eric." That was more for Mabel's benefit than the pig's, of course.

"And I'm Mabel!" ... Also not for the pig's benefit. Obviously. "And you know what that means?"

She was leaning a bit sideways, her grin growing wide.

"ROOMIES!"

She managed, somehow, to hold up one hand for a high-five while also supporting he pig. Mabel did this sort of thing a lot.

You bet Eric was gonna take that high-five action! "I think we'll get along just fine," he confided in her, some of that oh my god rooming with a girl nervousness disappating a bit. Just a bit. Still plenty of nervousness to go around.

"You bet we are!"

Yes! A roomie who high-fived! Perfect!

"How do you feel about... BeDazzlers?"

This was a very solemn question, Eric. Think carefully.

He was a figure skater, Mabel.

"Firmly in favor. Used correctly, they definitely add pizazz."

This was the happiest gasp.

The. Happiest.

"You said pizazz," she whispered. "You speak my language."

"I'm a figure skater," Eric admitted, finally making that narrative dialogue. "It's kind of part and parcel with the whole sport."

Mabel, don't squee. Don't squee. Don't do it. Don't--

"Eee! Really? A skater?! That's amazing!"

Everything was amazing. Everything.

"Do you compete? Do you wear spangles? Ohmygosh, this is awesome!"

Eric grinned. Coming from a small town where pretty much everything centered around the football team, it wasn't often he had people appreciating his own sport. So he liked to enjoy it.

"Yes, of course, to both of those. I mean, I didn't really bring anything with me because I'm not really doing any of that this summer..." he shrugged. But there was always Google!

"Is there video? Oh, oh, I want to see!"

It was difficult to bounce and clap and hold a pig, but Mabel had plenty of experience in all three, and somehow it worked out.
