Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

If Wash was frazzled by the arranged 'transport' that brought him here, it was hard to tell. Mostly due to the helmet. But, you know, general stoicism as well.

He by-passed the name-tags completely out of self defense before settling into a position that allowed him to observe the picnic without allowing anyone at his back.

Other than Pinkie and the student who also appeared to be in some type of body armor, Wash tended to stick out. Which caught Jones' attention.

"Unless you are unable to breath a oxygen-nitrogen, I doubt the suit is necessary," Jones advised. "And usually the picnic is not invaded by malevolent forces so battle armor will not be needed as well."

"I'll be the judge of that," Wash replied, making sure to keep an eye or sensor on the picnic before turning to engage in this conversation.

"I am sure you will," Jones said tonelessly. "However after observing the island's natural oddities since January, it usually waits until a week or two before it attempts to attack its inhabitants with some sort of flying animal or objects."

Granted she was only here for the flying eels but she had heard about the sharks and the chili peppers.

"Ah. Your 'buddy' must have not informed of that part," Jones replied flatly. "Or at least I assume you are here to teach here. Not to worry. Those type of invasions are usually easily dispatched. I'm sure you will have no issues given your armament."

"Your summation is correct," Jones replied evenly. "Though what is the past for you is the present and future for others. Additionally this island is home to both technical and supernatural extremes. Last week the graduating class were attacked by dragons. Some of them were made of dessert pudding."

Hopefully the fact that Jones stated these things factually and unemotionally would make Agent Wash less likely to think she was joking.

Washington sighed, slowly regaining his calm on how much of a complete clusterfuck this was turning out to be. He really should have expected that, all things considered.

Anakin walked over to the vaguely familiar armor with the unfamiliar presence. It didn't feel like Tex, but that had been a very long time ago.

"Hello," Wash replied, taking in... the guy in a robe. And what was going on with that hair?

Wash hummed thoughtfully. "I'll be sure to incorporate that into my lesson plans."

And watch them all. Paranoid.

Eliot often said that Hardison had the survival instinct of a depressed lemming. Eliot was often right about that kind of thing. Which was why Hardison was beelining for the guy in the super-cool armor, intent on geeking out over it. Because that was how Hardison rolled.

"A'ight, now that's just cool," he said, stopping just out of arms reach to give the armor a slow once-over. "What's it made out of? Some kind of carbon nano-fiber or somethin'? Cause it looks like it'd be kinda unwieldy, but you ain't standin' like it's all than uncomfortable."

"Titanium alloy." Duh. Several, in fact. "It's meant for combat situations."

Like fighting ninja style. Or teaching high school. What?

"Titanium an' what else?" Hardison asked, half-considering reaching forward and poking at it. He'd obviously been spending a lot of time with Parker and her habits were rubbing off. "What kind of combat situations? Doesn't look like your ordinary ground trooper stuff."

Yeah, he was just going to stand here and geek out for as long as this guy would let him. Or until Eliot came over and dragged him away by the ear, cussing.

"I assume there's gotta be some kind of electronic uplink system there, too? I don't suppose you can give me specs for that?" Pfft 'classified.' To Hardison, that was practically an invitation.

"...Totally interesting in the some of the tech you got goin' on there." And then Hardison realized that wasn't what the guy meant, oops. "Sorry man. Name's Hardison, 'sup?" He took a step forward to offer his hand. "General tech geek, so, y'know, interesting in all this hardware you're sportin'."

Wash looked at the hand and then made a quick, visual once over for any hidden weapons before shaking it. "Agent Washington. A little ahead of your time, I'd wager."

Pffft. Like Hardison was allowed to have weapons.

"Agent, huh? That understands why you're actin' allergic to my questions," Hardison said, his open demeanor shuttering a little bit. "Agent of what or is that all kinds of above my paygrade?"
