Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The last picnic for new arrivals had involved a bonfire, but there was no need for artificial warmth today. The weather outside was sunny, and just breezy enough that no one would roast, hopefully. There were tables and chairs arranged around the lawn, along with a long table of food, drinks, and desserts for anyone who stopped by.

There were stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Obi-Wan was a beacon of calm and peace today, standing patiently in the teacher area as he surveyed the incoming students. In his heavy set of Jedi robes.

So far, no one traumatic had turned up, which, if Anakin was to be believed, was a real risk.

After a few minutes of wide-eyed staring, Ben made his way over to the man in the Jedi robes that he wasn't related to.

Other than Atton.

...it was getting complicated around here.

"Master Kenobi?"

Obi-Wan looked towards the source of the voice, and found... a decidedly grown man with familiar features.

Surely...

"Greetings," he said lightly. Did I meet you as a small child a few weeks ago? didn't seem like it was a polite opening.

"I'm Ben Skywalker," Ben said with a smile. "Luke's son. It's an honor to finally meet you."

"I met a slightly smaller version of you some time ago," Obi-Wan said, with a faint smile that hid any residual puzzled he was feeling. (Or maybe that was the beard.) "So I suppose I should say 'good to meet you again'. What brings you to the island?"

He could be baffled about the whole thing, but no.

"My partner Andrew and I--" Ben pointed out the dark haired man, "--return every summer to teach here. We graduated a few years ago. I'm teaching mechanics."

Because Skywalker.

"Somehow, I find myself unsurprised," Obi-Wan said, faintly amused.

He knew his Skywalkers well.

"I suppose I should say 'welcome back', then."

"It's good to be back," Ben said, eyes sparkling. "It's a weird sort of home, but it's home."

"Emphasis on the weird," Obi-Wan said dryly. "I'd never imagined meeting quite so many generations of Skywalker."

He was doomed, clearly.

"Have you met Cade, too, then?" Ben asked, making things so much worse.

Obi-Wan touched his beard and didn't sigh. Thankfully. "Not as of yet," he said, "But I'm sure it's a matter of time."

He had no idea who Cade was, but they were apparently a Skywalker, so that seemed inevitable.

"He's my grandson," Ben said. "Eventually. His father's not been born yet."

There was a long pause.

"Of course he is," Obi-Wan said, and most certainly did sigh this time. "I'm sure next summer we'll see your great-grandson attend."

"I'm not sure the island's prepared for that level of Granddad bitching," Ben said.

"He is rather vain about his age," Obi-Wan said. "It would be entertaining, if nothing else."

He meant that with all the love in his heart, Anakin. But it was true.

Ben grinned. "You have to be entertained by it," he agreed, "or else you just think he's an asshole all the time."

"You don't have to tell me as much," said Obi-Wan, who had a tragic condition where he was entirely unable to think of Anakin as an asshole even some of the time, let alone all of the time.

"So what have you come here to teach, young Ben?"

"I'll teach droid repair," Ben said, "maybe some robot wars. My partner will make the kids' brains hurt. He enjoys it."

"Some of these kids do well having their brains tweaked every now and again," Obi-Wan said. "I taught ethics last semester. It was enlightening."

Occasionally irritating.

"I'll bet," Ben said with a tiny smile. "En--Andrew...it takes a lot to get him flustered, but he sometimes comes back and if he had a tail, he'd be lashing it."

"I take it mechanics is rather less... tail-lashing," Obi-Wan said. "For those gifted in the field, at least."

"Oh, there are a few geniuses that give me a run for my credits," Ben said, "but they aren't going to blow up anything important while I'm teaching."

"I wouldn't always be so certain of that," Obi-Wan said. "There's always that one student..."

Ben's lips turned up a little wryly. "You had two."

"Two?" Obi-Wan echoed.

He could think of one.
