Though why you're in here grad weekend is a mystery...

Who, having not found anything on fire so far, was hard at work. With his eyes closed.

Cassandra stepped into the library, and stopped immediately when she saw Face.

She looked faintly amused.

Then she cleared her throat. Loudly.

Face sat up, blinking. "'m awake."

"If you wanted to sleep, you could have remained in your room," Cassandra observed. "It is the end of the semester, after all."

Though he did look rather adorable at the moment. Not that she'd say so.

Face would be gratified to hear that. Also insufferable.

"Why, Cassandra, are you suggesting I should shirk my duty?" he asked with a grin.

"I am saying you are already shirking your duty," Cassandra said dryly, "So you may as well do it at home."

But while he was here, she'd walk up to the counter.

"But if I was in bed I doubt you'd visit me," Face replied.

"That would be likely," Cassandra agreed, as she pulled up a chair and ignored the implied flattery. "How terrible."

But he was so charming. "But I'm so charming," he said.

Modest too.

"And modesty is one of your greatest gifts," said Cassandra, who strangely did not sound convinced. "Is it not?"

You wounded him, Cassandra. Wounded him. "Modesty, charm, talent, I have it all."

"The only thing you lack is an intimate knowledge of when to stop talking."

Cassandra thought that was fair.

A palpable hit. "Who told you I lack intimate knowledge?"

"I did not say--"

Oh, he was messing with her again. "Ugh," Cassandra said. "You are terrible."

"So I've been told," Face said, completely shameless.

Cassandra shot him her least impressed look (it was a doozy). "What have you been up to, beyond sleeping when you should be working?"

Face was duly impressed by the look, just not very intimidated. "Mostly figuring out what classes I'm taking over the summer."

"I have not looked at the roster as of yet, but then I am hoping to leave during the coming week," Cassandra said. "The magical shield that keeps me from traveling may be more porous then."

"I'll miss you if that happens," Face said, momentarily serious. "Still, you should check them out, just in case."

Cassandra's expression went faintly confused at the first part, but she elected not to linger on it. "Why?" she said. "How ridiculous are they this time?"

"Most of them aren't ridiculous at all." Which made a change from the actual school year. "Lots of ones involving fighting."

Cassandra mulled that over. "Is Professor Cara teaching another class, as well?" she asked. "She was the most useful of all of my so-called teachers last semester."

Face nodded. "She seems to have a similar opinions on the island as you."

"They cannot be entirely similar, or she would not remain to teach," Cassandra said mildly. "But we have similar attitudes towards many things. It is refreshing, on an island where even the horses are allowed to teach."

"I can see how the pony could be disconcerting." At least she wasn't a bantha.

"She is very..."

Cassandra struggled to describe it. She really did.

"...Cheerful," she said, after an inordinately long time.

"I would have gone with pink."

"I hardly see where her skin tone comes into it," said Cassandra, "Though I agree, she is rather pink."

Yes, Cass, everyone knew. "Do you have a teacher you favor?"

Face shrugged. "It's fun to watch Skywalker and Kenobi."

"They are the ethics teachers, are they not?" Cassandra asked. "Is that class sensible, at least?"

Another nod. "You could cut the sexual tension with a dull spoon, but otherwise, yeah."

"Perhaps if I must remain, then," Cassandra said, though she was hardly sold on it. "For the subject matter. Not for the 'sexual tension'." Face.

...Leave that for books and fanfiction.

"But it's so fascinating." And Love in the Time of Jedi was getting so many hits.

Cassandra's eyes rolled only a little bit!

"I am certain you can find books far more fascinating," she said.

"But books have to make sense," Face pointed out. "Reality can be weirder and more fun like that."

Cassandra gave a little shrug. "I enjoy the sense of the books," she said. "Where there is a way such things... work."

"Most people do," Face said. "That's why there's power in stories."

"A hero or a heroine can pursue great passions and succeed," Cassandra said, a touch of a smile making it to her face. "Woo or be wooed, and the story plays out as it should. That is power, yes."

"And if you know the kinds of stories a person believes in, you can play on their expectations," Face added. "Not that I ever would."

Ahahahaha. Ha.

"That is very cynical of you to say," Cassandra said. Because of course she did.

She wouldn't know how to play on someone's expectations if her life depended on it. ... of course, if it did, she'd probably just punch the whatever instead.

He came by that cynicism honestly. "Maybe, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be cynicism in a good cause."

"I would prefer to avoid such methods," Cassandra said. "It seems... cruel."

Unlike punching people in the face, which was just good practice.

This was how you ended up taken in by ancient trickster gods, Cassandra.

"More cruel than punching them in the face?"

"At least then they can see the blow coming," Cassandra said.

And say what you will of her methods, but a tricksier person probably wouldn't break away from the Chantry to start a world-saving Inquisition and back away gracefully when a better candidate ~~fell out of the sky~~ showed up to lead it.

"But they still know they're getting hit."

"Yes," Cassandra said, "But sometimes someone needs to be hit."

Maybe he's around.
