Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were chairs and tables set up all across the lawn; some were by the bonfire, for the people who wanted to be warm and central to everything else at the picnic, and some were set farther away from the action, for the people who wanted more peace and quiet.

There was no escaping the glitter though. Sorry, but not really.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Cecil was still staying pretty close to the fire. Foucault had joined him, though, and with the insulating feathers, he could get a little further away and still be warm.

Plus, feathers and fire didn't really mix very well.

He had hot cocoa with lots of marshmallows in it, and was looking open and friendly.

"I might have guessed I'd find you hiding up here," Raven said cheerfully. She'd switched from her sleeveless look to a somewhat warmer looking outfit, just so he'd feel a little less sympathy cold by looking at her.

Also, what was the fun of mimicking your clothes if you couldn't swap outfits on a whim?

"Have you had a chance to meet many new kids?"

"A couple," Cecil answered. "They seem pretty nice so far." He hadn't met Cassandra. "What about you? And I'm not hiding, I'm keeping warm! If I was trying to hide, I wouldn't have brought Foucault."

"He does tend to draw attention, doesn't he," Raven noted. "Did you sign up for a new little sibling? Mine immediately started hitting on me."

"Yes! Mine seems okay." Cecil shrugged. Then again, pretty much everyone did. "Who's yours? Is he cute?"

"He is," Raven confirmed. "And he knows it. You should see his suit!"

"He wore a suit?" Cecil craned his head around looking for who this was. "Are you sure he's not a teacher or an agent of a vague-yet-menacing government agency in disguise?"

"Well, no, I just met him, so all I'm really sure of is that he flirted with me and was wearing a suit. But he didn't seem vague-yet-meancing."

"Well, if he tries to give you trouble, you can come and hide in my room," Cecil decided. Yes, another person might offer to beat him up for her, but this was Cecil. And it was Raven - she could probably do a much better job of that than he could, if she wanted to.

If nothing else, she could just turn into an elephant and stomp on him.

"I'll keep that in mind," Raven said. "I'm sure it'll be fine, though. Vague-yet-menacing government agencies seem to have left Fandom mostly alone."

"So far," Cecil agreed, though he had his doubts.

He shrugged it off, though. "How was your break? Did you go home for it?"

"Yup. Another Christmas at home with the Xaviers. And their fifty closest business associates who could get them more money." Raven shrugged. "Charles and I always hide off to the side and make snide comments about people."

"That sounds like fun." Cecil grinned at her. "How's your brother doing?"

"Good! He's just about all set to move to England, already. So maybe next time I can go visit him there and we can skip the relatives and business associates entirely." Raven tilted her head. "How about you? Did you get to go back and see Carlos at all?"

"I did!" Cecil sighed happily, then pouted. "It wasn't even Christmas there, though. But!" He grinned. "I'm almost two years ahead of them now!"

"Oh good! That means you're definitely catching back up, right? Age-wise."

"Eventually! I'll be sixteen later this month, unless the day gets cancelled for some reason."

Whichever day it was.

". . . How would a day get canceled? And wouldn't you still be sixteen the day after that, anyway? You'd still have gone around the sun that many times, right?"

"I'm really not sure if it works like that," Cecil said doubtfully.

Because Night Vale.

"But we haven't had any cancelled days at all here yet, so I'm sure it'll be fine!"

"Is that a flamingo?" Anna asked, wriggling with excitement. "Is he your pet? Or she. Do people have pet flamingos? He's adorable!"

Cecil grinned. "Thanks! It's he; his name is Foucault. And I think he's mostly a flamingo, except for the size and his eyes, of course, but I think they just make him cuter. And I guess some folks must have them, otherwise I couldn't have gotten him, but he's the only one I know of around here."

Foucault honked and started twisting his neck to examine the new person. Had she brought him any shrimp?

"Oh! And my name's Cecil. Hi!"

Anna held her hands out, tentatively, to see if the flamingo was okay with being petted.

"Maybe he's part-flamingo," she laughed. "Or a flamingo that was cursed by magic to be extra-cute. I'm Anna, of Arendelle."

"We've been calling him an osmingo, because maybe he's part ostrich?"

Foucault blinked at her hands and nudged them. Petting was good! Food was better, but he supposed he could make do.

"Are you a new student?"

"Anna, of Arendelle," she said, offering him a proper curtsy. "I just arrived this morning. Do you think ostriches and flamingos really -- I suppose they're both birds, aren't they?"

"I think so." Cecil shrugged. "Oh, well. I don't really care, I just think he's neat." He hugged Foucault, who honked and pecked at his hair.
