Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The forecast for today might have called for rain, but thankfully, there was no sign of bad precipitation in Fandom. The weather was bright and sunny, but still a bit chilly, so the first thing people might have noticed when they arrived was the bonfire set up in the middle of the lawn. There were tables and chairs scattered around the bonfire, some a safer distance away than others, and each table had been graced with a good portion of gold and blue glitter because the glitter supply was never, ever going to run out and certain people in the administration had just come to terms with that.

There were tables of moddable food and drinks, complete with the ingredients to make s'mores, as well as name tags and the lists of Big Siblings and roommates. It was time to welcome some new people!

Parker's name tag said "Alice White." It was also upside down.

She might have mistaken that plate of cookies as one serving, and be happily eating her way through it right now. Nobody but Eliot better try to stop her.

Parker waved and shoved another cookie in her mouth. Om nom nom nom.

That guy looked like he could use one. But not one of hers. So she picked up a different plate and offered it to him.

"Pop tart?"

"Have you talked with my wife?" he teased, though his heart wasn't exactly into it. "She eats them for breakfast all the time."

"I don't know, who's your wife?" Parker responded, then nodded in approval. "Smart. They have the burst of sugar needed to bring you out of a death coma."

He'd had a shock and was way slow on the uptake this morning. Sorry.

"Helloooo!" Parker grinned and waved at him. That upside-down name tag probably didn't help, did it? "Eliot knows more about the Island but he hasn't taught before either. Except that one time. And he's insisting that doesn't count."

Anakin blinked. Not enough coffee for this. "Why didn't it count? Was he an animal or a kid?"

These were legitimate concerns around here, okay?

"Neither. Does that happen?" Parker wondered. "Because he's tried to claim he's not in danger, but since he never goes to the hospital when he's hurt..."

He's a big fat fibber, Anakin. Whatcha gonna do. He'll also give you coffee if you show up at the diner and ask for an explanation of Parker. Free!

"Can I ask to be a giraffe?... and it was only for a week. But he's great with kids. They can tell he'd break people's necks for looking at them funny."

"I'm not sure you can request a specific animal?" Anakin offered. "I always seem to end up as a cat."

A cute, cute, angry kitty.

"Well, a lot of people around here can break necks."

Belatedly, Anakin realized that might not be a positive.

"That's what's important." Parker nodded at her Teaching Buddy, glad she understood him so well! Well. As well as she understood anyone.

Aliens. People were aliens.

"Well, just in case someone's taking notes: giraffe." Parker took another bite out of her cookie. "I visited Eliot over Parent's Weekend. And saw the show with the pink singing pony. Is she someone who was human and got turned into a pony?"

Because that would be awesome!

Eliot knew better than that on a day like today. Instead, he made absolutely no effort at being subtle about stealing a cookie off her plate.

"How many wallets have you stolen so far?"

"Just three," Parker said, then frowned at Eliot, but decided not to retrieve the cookie once he had licked it. Your wallet was going to be next, Eliot. "For practice." Also, snooping. It was interesting, what some people had in their wallets here.

"Yeah, I'm sure they'll get right on that," Eliot said, taking a bite of his cookie. Hmmm. Not bad. "You manage to meet anyone so far, or are you still gathering intel?"

"Mostly observation. Although my 'teaching buddy'--" Real air quotes there, Hardison would be proud, "-- has more styling to his hair than you do. Is that a requirement?"

"To be a teaching buddy?" Eliot shook his head. "I don't use that much product." Just, you know, anti-frizz stuff. And good conditioner. And a hair dryer. And at least two different types of brushes.

"Suuuuuure you don't." See! Parker was learning tact! That snort-laugh was almost muffled. "He's married and his wife likes Pop-tarts. Also, I'm liking these cookies, but they should have brought more for everyone else."

"They'll know better, next time," Eliot said, tossing his hair in a way that totally wasn't even a little self-conscious, okay? "I apparently got paired with the principal. She says not to throw students off the roof without harnesses or a soft place to land."

"Well of course with harnesses." How else would they learn good habits. Parker frowned, chewing on her cookie, thinking. "They're not especially breakable or anything, are they?"

"Enh. Air mattresses." Probably? They'd see. "Which one is the principal?" So Parker could avoid her or break into her office? Or stalk her maybe?
