fandomhigh | Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The forecast for today might have called for rain, but thankfully, there was no sign of bad precipitation in Fandom. The weather was bright and sunny, but still a bit chilly, so the first thing people might have noticed when they arrived was the bonfire set up in the middle of the lawn. There were tables and chairs scattered around the bonfire, some a safer distance away than others, and each table had been graced with a good portion of gold and blue glitter because the glitter supply was never, ever going to run out and certain people in the administration had just come to terms with that.

There were tables of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, complete with the ingredients to make s'mores, as well as name tags and the lists of Big Siblings and roommates. It was time to welcome some new people!

"Suuuuuure you don't." See! Parker was learning tact! That snort-laugh was almost muffled. "He's married and his wife likes Pop-tarts. Also, I'm liking these cookies, but they should have brought more for everyone else."

"They'll know better, next time," Eliot said, tossing his hair in a way that totally wasn't even a little self-conscious, okay? "I apparently got paired with the principal. She says not to throw students off the roof without harnesses or a soft place to land."

"Well of course with harnesses." How else would they learn good habits. Parker frowned, chewing on her cookie, thinking. "They're not especially breakable or anything, are they?"

"Well, they are teenagers."

"Enh. Air mattresses." Probably? They'd see. "Which one is the principal?" So Parker could avoid her or break into her office? Or stalk her maybe?

Eliot pointed Zoe out. "Principal Zoe Winchester. She's some kind of ex-military, haven't nailed down where. So probably space or something."

Parker considered her for a moment, then said, "She looks like she could give you a good fight." So, good job, Island, hiring someone tough for the job.

"She can definitely hold her own," Eliot agreed. "Lot of the people here probably could." Which, considering some of the things the island liked to throw at them, was possibly a prerequisite.

"Which is good because of the zombies. And werewolves."

And how was that bite coming, Eliot? HMMM?

The full moon was on Monday. And Eliot was fine, thank you.

"And the ghosts," Eliot said. "And the evil carnivals." He shook his head. "You've got your taser on you, right?"

"PFfft. Duh. Hardison upgraded it for me!"

Don't ask what that taser can do now, Eliot. Street-legal it wasn't.

It was probably best not to read too much into the expression on Eliot's face at the idea of a Hardison "upgraded" taser.

"Please tell me he just made it so it can help you pick locks or something."

"Like I need that kind of help." Parker had gotten out her phone and was texting Hardison. Also taking a photo of the pink pony again, because he hadn't believed her last time. "So far I've only spotted two teens carrying weapons, is that normal?" Didn't they need their own tasers?

"At least one of them can throw you across the room with her mind," Eliot said. "I think they'll be okay."

"Hunh." Parker looked up, excited. "We should get them to do that in class!"

"Yeah, except neither of us can do it, Parker. How the hell can we teach it?"

"We'll figure something out," Parker said with supreme confidence.

"Or we could just teach them the things we already know." Why was he bothering? Parker didn't actually listen to him. As was proven by the fact that he was here to teach in the first place.

"Why can't we do both?... I have to go look for a warehouse after this."

". . . To teach yourself telekinesis in?"

Sometimes her leaps of conversation lost even Eliot.

"Do you think I could?" Hardison was going to get the weirdest texts after this conversation. "I was just going to set up a new place to crash."

"No, I don't --" Eliot shook his head, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "There are plenty of abandoned warehouses in town." Some of which were owned by mad scientists, apparently. Crap. "Or, you know, I have a house. . . ."

He was going to regret every bit of this, wasn't he.

"You like your space," Parker pointed out warily, instead of immediately jumping on that. "You've said so. Lots of times."

He did. He'd moved to this damn island for that reason in the first place.

"Or there's a loft over the diner that's empty, right now. Used to belong to clones."

Both Priestly and Dean would be horrified to be described that way.

Now that had possibilities. Parker perked up. "Evil clones?" Hardison would be thrilled!
