Technology and You- Monday- 1st period

The students who showed up to class today would find a note telling them to meet at the Danger Shop, which was made up to look like a little computer lab. Each desk had a laptop on it, which would not be able to be broken in any way. Thanks, Danger Shop!

"Morning," Kitty greeted them, trying for cheerful when she already knew her week was going to suck. "Welcome to Technology and You. I'm Kitty Pryde, and I don't really care what you call me. In this class, you're going to get to learn more about the technology available on present day Earth so hopefully things will get a little easier for you, and you can get questions answered. This means we're going to be covering things like computers, other electronics, and transportation. We're going all in here.

"So! It's the first week and I get to do the very first introductions you're all going to get sick of. I want to know your name, when and where you're from, and where you think you are in understanding technology. And if there's anything you definitely want to cover, mention that too. Then we're going to work on some stuff, so let's start with you there."

"My name is Edward Kenway. I last lived in Bristol, in the 18th century," Edward said, settling back. "Ah... I know what a tablet is!"

He could barely use it, but still.

"Nathan Byrn from England," he started, scrunching up his shoulders to fend off the buzzing in his head from being around all this technology. "Not sure when, honestly. I think the time is pretty equal. And I'm...I know what a tablet is and I've used a cellular phone before."

"I'm Alex Mack," Alex said, "I'm from Paradise Valley, California. 1996 and I know that phones can now access the internet,"

"Celia Bowen, hello again," she said with a little wave. "I'm from New York, most recently, and circa 1884. I've been here since January, though, so...I've used a computer a few times, and I have a friend who tried very enthusiastically to convince me I should have a cell phone, once."

It still wasn't going to happen, Joker. Probably.

"I'd really like to learn about cameras, though," she admitted, shrugging. "I don't know if that's the sort of thing that's covered, but they seem to have improved drastically since my day."

"I'm Cosette. Fauchelevent," she added after a moment; since everyone else seemed to be giving their full name, she might as well give the one she still sometimes forgot she had.

"I've learned my way around how to use my phone and computer for simple things, like looking up information or using the word processor, but I'd like to learn a little more about all the other things I can do with them. I know there's so much more, and I haven't gotten around to finding out about them yet."

The operative word was 'yet.' Nerd.

"My name is Ichabod Crane and I came here from Oxford, England, in 1771," Ichabod said. "I have explored the computers in the library, specifically the Wikipedia." He had been shown how to do that, and he hadn't got much further.

"I can also make the computer print the contents on the screen on to paper." He was proud of that.

"I am Jalian d'Arsennette y ken Selvren," Jalian said when it was her turn. "We don't have a name for my home, but you call it California. In," she did the math quickly, "the year 2731 by your current calendar. I have been learning the technology here. I can use an MP3 player and radio, and make the phones and the computers work a little. And I can drive!" she added proudly.

Don't ask her to drive. For everybody's safety.

She shrugged. "I would like to learn how to learn more. And what things are called, so that I can ask questions. And how your technology is put together."

Edward pretended to study his handout as he watched the others from the corner of his eyes. He determined the way to turn it on through that - and how to navigate to the web browser.

That was about as far as he got.

The handout was pretty useless to Nathan so he tried to use what he knew about the tablet to get the laptop on. He managed to find the right button on the third try and that was a success enough for him.

Now, to try and get on the internet...

Alex was more or less capable of turning on the laptop and navigating her way to open a browser, that much was pretty similar to how it was back home. She did appreciate the lack of dial up though.

Celia at least managed to turn her computer on without help, so that was a minor victory in and of itself. And seeing as how she'd spent plenty of time on Wikipedia in the past, she knew how to even open a browser all by herself.

The interesting part for her, today, was learning the names of the things she'd been using sporadically for months, now. "Navigation button," she mused, actually standing up to peer closer at her screen. "You think it'd look more like...something that navigates."

Oh, Cosette knew how to do this much at least with a web browser! (Considering she'd learned enough to install Chrome on her computer and delete the Internet Explorer shortcut from her desktop entirely.)

She was going to have fun with this one, and she was humming the melody of "Hunters in the Woods" to herself as she clicked around.

Ichabod, rather pleased with himself, managed to turn on the computer and open a browser, since he had done that before. However, the names were confusing.

"Navigation button? Breadcrumbs?
