Doctoring 101

Sadly for most of the members of the class, Navaan was back at the front of the classroom today, looking much better from her week asleep or whatever. More excitingly, not only was she at the front of the room, but so were heaps of moddable supplies for what looked like a big arts and crafts project. Various kinds of cloth, lots of different sewing supplies, trim of all kinds...

Oh and one other thing bore noting. Navaan was dressed in layers of ragged linen strips, strategically placed around her body. It was incredibly revealing, showing a lot of skin, but fortunately for their wee minds and multiple state and federal statutes, everything that needed to be covered was.

"Hey kids," she said once she realized that they were all present, likely more than a few minutes after the bell rang. "So, you're probably asking yourselves, 'Why is Doctor Navaan dressed as a sexy ghoul? Why are there dried blood stains on that costume? What amazing doctoring lesson does she have planned for us today?'"

No one had been thinking that, Navaan. No one.

"Well, an huge part of doctoring involves finding out secrets. Secrets are super-important to doctors--they're what help us solve mysteries and fight crime. But secrets don't do anyone any good if they're locked up in someone's head and not being shared. So when you're faced with someone who knows more than they're telling, you have to learn what they know. And the best tool in a doctor's bag is: seduction! Who here knows anything about seducing anybody?"

Don't worry, class. She'd wait.

Once it seemed that the class had volunteered anything they were going to, Navaan sighed and continued her lecture. "Okay, so the most important thing about seducing someone is that you can't just give them what they think they want. That's not seduction, it's...I don't know. Romance or something. You need to keep your target intrigued, surprised, and a little afraid." That was surely a reassuring way to look at it! "Once you're dressed in an appropriately sexy costume, you--" She paused to think about it and shook her head. "Nah, I can't even explain that to you lot. Most of you are about as dim as a half-dead firefly, so we're gonna have to do this slow. So, first step of a proper seduction: costumes. Your job today is to come up with seducing costumes. I got plenty of stuff here, so design and make some good seducing costumes. At the end of the class, you can show 'em off and explain how you're gonna seduce someone with that costume."

Celia was going to die, here in this class, of sheer embarrassment. This was so much worse than hunting leeches, this was so much worse than winning 'fuckninny,' and it was even worse than when Navaan had decided she was either deformed or male under her clothes.

Although this did seem to provide an opportunity to -- no.

Either way, she spent most of the lecture studiously not looking at anyone in the class, and absolutely did not raise her hand to offer what she knew about seduction.

(Because honestly, it wasn't much, anyway.)

Elsa was right up there in the 'not offering helpful seduction tips' camp. Because really - really - she was so very not qualified. At all. Even a little.

All she knew was that some people were into hips! That could not possibly be helpful!

Eleanor was absolutely not volunteering any of her thoughts on seduction.

Firstly, because she had never actually seduced anyone. Secondly, because the one time she had tried, she'd been mind-whammied and her boyfriend had politely refused.

And thirdly: she was pretty sure that seducing Joker was a matter of showing up at his door. Teenage boys did not require much by way of seduction.

... of course, this class could be fun. She should not be getting ideas, but ....

Ichabod knew better than to ask Navaan questions such as why finding out secrets were important and why seduction was the best method. Even if he had known anything about seduction he would not have volunteered his opinion. In fact, he was mostly staring down at his desk. And he most certainly was not looking at Celia.

"So, the first step in seducing someone is to be half-naked," Joker answered. "Assuming you've got the bod for it. And, you know, skilled people can skip this step. Second, use a deep, sexy voice. And thirdly and most importantly, swagga."

Okay, so... Toby couldn't argue, exactly, with Navaan's logic- figuring out people's secrets was kind of how he'd managed to scrape by an existence before Fandom. Except he hadn't needed to seduce people, having a way to get said secrets that were 'locked up inside someone's head'. But he wasn't going to share that. Or anything about seduction, since see above re: not having had to use it ever.

The worst part about making a seducing costume was probably that Elsa suspected that she was going to have to wear it. And the spread of things to choose from for creating these costumes was... less than seductive.

Seductive turkey baster? Seductive traffic cone? Seductive... what was she supposed to do with a Sharpie marker and three buttons?!

There were a few pebbles and crystals on the table, though, and some dried flowers and grasses. Maybe she could work with this?

Celia considered her options carefully, and then dragged her supplies over to a corner where she could work without getting stared at, hopefully. It was easier to just do this on her person, since she was going to probably be forced into wearing it anyway, so she quickly, magically drew up a dressing screen to duck behind, too. She assumed they were allowed to use what they already had (Navaan hadn't said they couldn't), and she really didn't want to be told to do it over -- considering their discussion the first day of class, she suspected she'd be under extra scrutiny due to being a 'sorceress' and how 'sorceresses' were supposed to dress. (And there was a snowball's chance in hell that she'd ever wear anything like that.)

So by the time she was done, Celia had magicked her own neckline lower and vanished her sleeves, leaving her in a laced-up bodice, and pinned her skirt up on one side to reveal a bit of her leg. She'd tied a bandage just above her knee to replace her now-vanished garter, as well as along her arms to make up for lack of sleeves, and pulled her hair down and over one shoulder. The overall effect was of a...painted lady of her own time, sort of, at least until Celia decided to fully embrace the insanity of the class, and slung a string of Christmas lights (that didn't light up, of course, because there was no battery pack) around her hips, and strung a...yo-yo through her makeshift garter.

Because why not.

She gave the whole thing a quick, magical splash of red, just for flavor, and called it done. It was a bit more than she'd generally really show in public of her own volition (though her swimsuit was more scandalous, she thought), but it was far, far, far better than what Navaan was wearing, and absolutely leagues better than the picture she'd been shown of what 'sorceresses' ought to be wearing. And hopefully it would prove the point that she was both biologically female, with all the appropriate parts and not deformed and capable of wearing dresses that weren't 'ugly,' since she was still not over that and probably should have been.

And since everyone didn't have her powers, she also left her conjured screen in place, for anyone who wanted a private spot to change. She was considerate that way.

All right, Eleanor was going to keep what Irene had told her in mind. She was an Amazon. A Queen. She was going to wear something shameless and look divine in it. And possibly make Joker have some kind of brain spasm.

What she ended up doing was taking a very transparent black layer and gluing darker geometric patches (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Rellyjean/eleanor/3_28329.jpg) over it, in strategic areas. She slit the dress all the way down her spine (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Rellyjean/eleanor/4_28429.jpg) in the back, but left it cut high (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Rellyjean/eleanor/4.jpg) in front.

And then she pinned her hair up with some of the detritus she found laying about -- a few playing cards, some dice, a couple of pens. She peeled an orange and looped the rind through the braid on top of her head.

She added a couple of candy necklaces to complete the ensemble. No real theme, but hey, she was using class for her own devices today. Which was, quite possibly, to take a stab at seducing one of her classmates. So that was still in the spirit of things, right?

A seductive costume? Ichabod, who had never considered the art of seduction before, picked up a colourful piece of fabric and wrapped it around his neck like a scarf. At least it was eye-catching.

Joker stripped off his shirt and (unbelievably!) his hat. He tied a brightly-colored bandana on his head, and matching strips of cloth around his wrists. A medallion made of a length of twine, a sand dollar, and some glitter completed the ensemble. It looked silly, but what was important was selling it.

"This is how seductive women dress where I'm from." Not really -- it had certainly started that way, though Celia would argue that one could seduce someone with one's less physical charms, but that seemed like a complete waste of her time to even try with Navaan. "The...string of lights is to distract them, because everyone knows that would-be seduce...ees are drawn to lights."

That lie might have worked better if she'd known the correct term. And if she wasn't nervously tugging upwards on her bodice. Damn it.

"And the yo-yo is so that while they're distracted by the lights and my...various charms, I can garrote them and make them give me the information I want."

That made tons of sense, right?

"My costume's (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Rellyjean/eleanor/3_28329.jpg) pretty self-explanatory," Eleanor said. "I'm a mysterious wandering Queen. People will wonder why I have an orange rind and playing cards in my hair. Those are part of my royal tiara. Perhaps I'm the Queen of Diamonds herself. They will also stare hoping to see if the patches shift around in such a way that this dress reveals inappropriate areas, but I used double-sided tape to hold it in place, so it won't. That won't stop them from looking, so I'm going to stretch a lot just to tease them with the idea."

Joker, eat your heart out if he's there no modding.

"It's eye-catching," was Ichabod's only explanation to the colourful scarf around his neck. There was no way he would wear anything like those modern skinny jeans.

"I'm..." Joker began, still staring at Eleanor. "Um. I, uh. Hang on." He took a moment to compose himself and cleared his throat.

"I'm a pirate," he purred, standing up so that everyone could see the delightful things that using his arms to walk with did to his biceps and torso. "And I'm here to loot and pillage all the booty I can get my hands on."
