Daniel hesitated. "I was," he admitted. "But if he doesn't know about my connection with the program, I think it's probably going to be best if I stay clear of him."
Janet frowned. "Let's not give him any more information than he currently has," she said. "He's experienced enough to recognize 'deep space radar telemetry' as a lame cover story. I don't want to put you at risk too."
"I don't think you need much experience to recognize that as a lame cover story," Daniel shrugged. "I'll keep my distance. But if he ever does anything to threaten you, then I'm not going to stand by and watch that happen."
"I don't know," said Janet. "How many people feel for the deep space radar telemetry line?" She smiled at him. "I won't ask you to stand by then, but I can take care of myself, you know."
He rubbed her arm comfortingly. "At little advance warning might have been nice," he said. "If I'd have known that you liked women, then learning that you were seeing one might have been a bit less of shock."
Janet started relaxing more against Daniel's chest. "I was career military, remember?" she asked. "I wasn't about to bring it up to anyone. Not even Sam. I guess I didn't even think about telling you when we got here, and you're right. I should have. I wasn't trying to keep that from you, it just never really came up in daily conversation."
Daniel chuckled slightly. "Well, I'm thinking that would have been a pretty odd daily conversation if it had come up," he said. "I'm now trying to think of a secret of my own to tell you in response."
"You have secrets?" asked Janet. "You seem like a fairly open guy. Yes, what would I have said? 'Hi, Daniel. How were classes today? By the way, I'm attracted to women.'"
"Oh, no! How horrible of you. We'll have to revoke your security clearance." She giggled. "One slightly shocking way to do it. It's not that I was looking for the right time, really, it's just that there was never a way to bring it up gracefully." Janet gave him a hopeful look. "You know, a backrub might help me relax and soothe my headache."
"They'll never do it," said Janet. "You know too many alien languages."
"Oh, you're wonderful," breathed Janet, scooting so her back was facing Daniel. She twisted her hair up in a messy bun to keep it off her shoulders, and grabbed a pencil from her backpack to stick through her hair and hold it in place.
"Only," Daniel paused for a moment to try and count. "Yeah, too many," he agreed.
Daniel gently placed his hands at the bottom of her neck. "You know, this would be so much easier if you had your shirt off," he whispered in her ear, grinning.
"I can only guess that means 'thank you," she said.
"If you'd like even more of an excuse," said Janet. "I could cite medical research at you on the benefits of skin-to-skin contact." She pulled her shirt off and glanced back at him again. "Better?"

"I know. But I like being able to take care of you."
Re: Fourth Period (NFB)
"As long as you know that," said Janet. "But thanks. I appreciate it."
Re: Fourth Period (NFB)
"Anytime," he smiled at her, brushing his knuckle gently against her cheek.

Janet closed her eyes as he touched her. "Daniel," she murmured.

"How's your head feeling now?" he asked quietly.
Re: Fourth Period (NFB)
"A little better," she said, meeting his eyes. "It'll take a while to fully recover, but at least the migraine's started to subside."
Re: Fourth Period (NFB)
"That's something at least." He moved to sit on the floor next to her, and placed his arm around her shoulder. "I'm sorry for being an ass."
Re: Fourth Period (NFB)
"It's okay," said Janet, smiling ruefully as she leaned into Daniel. "I should have told you a long time ago."

"I'm sure I can oblige with that," he smiled at her, moving his arm away and shifting more towards the side. "Turn around then."

"Would it?" she asked, glancing back over her shoulder at him. "Are you sure about that?" She toyed with the edges of her hem.

"Well, I've always found massages work much better on bare skin..."

Re: Fourth Period (NFB)
Daniel found himself staring at her bare back. "Um. Yeah. Are you sure you have to be in the library all day?"
