The crankiness had abated slightly, but Janet was a little distracted now. She could be composing a couple of long and slightly irritable e-mails to people back home.

Pippi flounces in with a big bag of caramel candies from All and Sundries.

"Hello again... Janet!" she grinned. She's getting the hang of this whole, "remembering a person's name correctly" thing.

"Hey, Pippi," said Janet, looking up and smiling. "How's it going?"

"It's going very well thank you." she said.

"I've come to pay you back for my fine!" She presented Janet with a bag of assorted caramels. Regular caramels, chocolate covered, mixed with nuts, wrapped around nougat, the whole nine yards.

"Thank you again."

"Wow," said Janet. "Thank you so much, Pippi." She unwrapped a chocolate-covered caramel and popped it in her mouth. "You went overboard, you realize. Have a caramel or ten."

"Well I wasn't sure what everybody liked so I figured assortments tend to cover most people." she said, "Thanks."

She took a handful and put them in her pocket, retrieving a chocolate covered one and eating it.

"So... How do you like working here?"

"That's true," said Janet. "Though I don't think that I've ever seen any of the library aides turn down chocolate." She grabbed a plain caramel next before putting the rest of them in a bowl behind the Collections Desk.

"It's a pretty good job." Janet shrugged. "Though Special Collections can be a handful."

"Special Collections?"

"You've heard of Special Collections, haven't you?" asked Janet. "It ate a teacher last semester. We think it might have eaten the Librarian."

"Oh dear... Why do we have one then? If it eats people?"

"Because it's where we keep the dangerous books," said Janet. "You have to be very careful in there."

It had never occured to Pippi that books could be dangerous.

"Wow. You must be very brave."

Janet grinned. "I just know the right precautions to take," she said. "It's also been known to turn students into animals. I think it's sort of sentient."

Angela is around and shooting slightly suspicious glances at Janet.

Janet is ignoring the suspicious glances. She's very good at ignoring things when she doesn't want to deal with them.

"Hey, Angela," she says cheerfully. After all, she's furious with Marty, not with Angela.

"Hey," Angela replied, leaning against the counter. "So ..." She paused. She had no desire to get in the middle of a roommate squabble, really.

"How are the caramels?" she asked instead.

"Really good," said Janet, pushing the bowl towards Angela. Oh, good. Candy was something she could always talk about. And Angela wasn't looking at her any differently, which was also a relief. Because, 'Hi, you've known me for ten months now and just today you're finding out I'm the clone of a dead woman' is a little too awkward for a Friday morning.

"Pippi overdid it, but she did take a bunch back for herself. It was nice of her to bring so many in."

Finding out Janet was the clone of a dead woman would probably be significantly less weird for Angela than watching Rory remove and replace her limbs, or learning Angel was a 240-year-old vampire. But she won't find out, so they won't have to have that discussion anyhow.

Anyhow. Candy. Angela takes a chocolate-covered caramel and slowly unwraps it.

"It was," she said. "Did she say if they came from Wonka's?"

"She didn't say where they came from," said Janet. She stared at the candy speculatively. "I should have thought to ask. I've had two so far and nothing's happened." She picked out a caramel with nougat and unwrapped it.

Angela stared at the candy for a second, then shrugged and put it in her mouth. "It's good, anyhow," she said. "And as long as my limbs don't start falling off, I'm happy."

"That's--" Janet shook her head. "Incredibly strange. Ridn't Rory think it was the pizza, though?"

Angela shrugged. "She told me the play. I hadn't heard the pizza theory."

"It's possibly the strangest thing at this school."

She sucked choclate and caramel off her fingers and reached for another, raspberry-flavored, candy.

"The pizza theory came up in ACJ yesterday," said Janet. "And is Cordelia still British?"

Janet nodded. "The strangest thing for today. I'm sure something weirder will come up in a few weeks." She stared at the caramel for a minute before tossing it in her mouth. "At least if something weird happens, we'll have had really good caramels."

"Probably. I don't see Cordelia that often, so I don't know," Angela said.

"And good candy makes up for a lot."

"So we could be British, or limb-removing freaks, but at least we'll be well-fed British limb-removing freaks?" asked Janet. She grimaced. "Not that Rory's a freak." Her head hit the Collections Desk with an audible thunk. "Could I put my foot in my mouth any worse?"
