fandomhigh | extreme physical education, period 1, tuesday

After sending out a ~~handwavy~~ email to his students yesterday to expect a brief portal trip for today's class, everyone was now standing in the backyard of Sam's massive estate. The first thing they'd probably notice was the big halfpipe looking before them and the boy who was currently dropping into the halfpipe.

If they looked around, they'd notice statues and nymphs that seemed to be alive, lots of gnomes that seemed to be in different places whenever you looked, small gladiators that seemed to be arguing with each other and a big ole Minotaur off to one side.

"Welcome to Seattle," Sam said, smiling. "And to the backyard of my house. It probably looks a little strange but after living on the island for so long, maybe it's kind of normal? Kind of? Anyway, today we're gonna be doing some skateboarding. Back there -- "

He jerked a thumb at the halfpipe.

" -- is what we're going to be using. You can see my friend Ramon already in the halfpipe showing off for new visitors. It's a lot more fun then showing off for Taco, my chupacabra. Heads up, if you're a girl, he might try and charm you. Don't let him."

"Hey, I heard that!" Ramon shouted from the top of the halfpipe. Taco, who was perched at the top of the halfpipe too, just rolled over and stretched out. "No one can resist my charm!"

Sam ignored him. "Skateboarding consists of a board with four small wheels that you stand on, of course. You use your feet to get you speed and the board is small and light enough to be able to do tricks when you're more experienced. Today, we're just gonna work on dropping into the halfpipe and staying on the board while going up and down one side and the other. It's harder than it looks because you've really gotta find your balance. I'm not gonna make you wear knee and elbow pads but I would recommend them. Helmets are not optional though since we're not in the Danger Shop today. You wear them or you don't skate and I'll make James entertain you for the whole class."

Ramon made a gagging sound. The gnomes had finally noticed some new visitors and were slowly getting closer to the class, giving them all curious looks.

"And...nothing here will hurt you," Sam said when he noticed the gnomes. "Feel free to explore the backyard if you're curious though."

With that, Sam started passing out skateboards and sending everyone up the halfpipe.

Isabelle wasn't sure what to expect, either. But she wasn't acting in a threatening manner, at least.

She made no sudden moves, just watched.

Taco got to just a few feet in front of her and pushed his head forward like he was trying to smell her and figure out what she was. His tongue slithered out and he hissed a bit but didn't look like he was going to attack or anything.

After a while, Isabelle actually crouched and tentatively held out a hand.

She was hoping this creature wasn't anti-Shadowhunter.

Taco wasn't anti-Shadowhunter, no. He didn't even know what that was. When she extended her hand, he moved closer and sniffed her fingertips.

And then he licked them.

Of course he did. "That tickles," Isabelle noted, with a tone that was half dismayed and half amused. She didn't pull her hand away. "Your saliva better not be venomous."

Taco wasn't venomous. If he bit something, he'd be able to break magic but licking wasn't going to hurt her. He did it often enough to Sam.

Taco moved a little closer to her and licked her fingertips again, looking up at her with his yellow eyes as he did.

"Okay, you're kind of cute," Isabelle relented, as she went to try and pet him. "But still, who the hell keep a chupacabra as a pet?"

A necromancer, apparently.

A necromancer, indeed. Sam had been keeping an eye on the proceedings to make sure Taco didn't get out of hand and was satisfied with what he was seeing.

Taco moved closer to Isabelle and rolled onto his back so she'd pet his stomach. If chupacabras could purr, Taco would be doing that.

Isabelle snorted despite herself, but petted Taco's stomach, anyway. He reminded her of Church, a little.

If Church had been hairless and a mythical monster.

Taco's legs kicked a bit and he stretched out and made little noises of pleasure now that his stomach was getting scritched.

If she'd had food, she'd be his best friend in the world right now.

Sadly, she didn't have anything. Just scritches, but at least her skills at that were pretty well-honed.

She glanced over towards Sam, then back down at Taco, shaking her head to herself.

Taco rolled onto his feet again and went to cuddle up against her legs and ankles, wrapping his thin body around them. Hey, he liked attention so he'd show his appreciation there.

Well, all the more reason for Isabelle to skip out on skateboarding. She hadn't wanted to wear a helmet, anyway. It would've flattened her hair, and no one wanted that.

So, guess she was staying on chupacabra duty. Not bad. At least the thing seemed to like her.
