extreme physical education, period 1, tuesday
After sending out a handwavy email to his students yesterday to expect a brief portal trip for today's class, everyone was now standing in the backyard of Sam's massive estate. The first thing they'd probably notice was the big halfpipe looking before them and the boy who was currently dropping into the halfpipe.
If they looked around, they'd notice statues and nymphs that seemed to be alive, lots of gnomes that seemed to be in different places whenever you looked, small gladiators that seemed to be arguing with each other and a big ole Minotaur off to one side.
"Welcome to Seattle," Sam said, smiling. "And to the backyard of my house. It probably looks a little strange but after living on the island for so long, maybe it's kind of normal? Kind of? Anyway, today we're gonna be doing some skateboarding. Back there -- "
He jerked a thumb at the halfpipe.
" -- is what we're going to be using. You can see my friend Ramon already in the halfpipe showing off for new visitors. It's a lot more fun then showing off for Taco, my chupacabra. Heads up, if you're a girl, he might try and charm you. Don't let him."
"Hey, I heard that!" Ramon shouted from the top of the halfpipe. Taco, who was perched at the top of the halfpipe too, just rolled over and stretched out. "No one can resist my charm!"
Sam ignored him. "Skateboarding consists of a board with four small wheels that you stand on, of course. You use your feet to get you speed and the board is small and light enough to be able to do tricks when you're more experienced. Today, we're just gonna work on dropping into the halfpipe and staying on the board while going up and down one side and the other. It's harder than it looks because you've really gotta find your balance. I'm not gonna make you wear knee and elbow pads but I would recommend them. Helmets are not optional though since we're not in the Danger Shop today. You wear them or you don't skate and I'll make James entertain you for the whole class."
Ramon made a gagging sound. The gnomes had finally noticed some new visitors and were slowly getting closer to the class, giving them all curious looks.
"And...nothing here will hurt you," Sam said when he noticed the gnomes. "Feel free to explore the backyard if you're curious though."
With that, Sam started passing out skateboards and sending everyone up the halfpipe.

Re: lecture [epe 07/22]
The lecture got the same amount of attention it would have if she had been dozing, but that was because there were so many things to see.
...Did Sam say 'chupacabra'?
skateboarding [epe 07/22]
Re: skateboarding [epe 07/22]
The gnomes really weren't much of an issue for her. She still thought the expectation all sentient beings be human was more than a little boring.
Re: skateboarding [epe 07/22]
Finding her balance was easy enough--since developing her powers, she'd never lost it.
Still, standing on the edge of the halfpipe and then dropping onto it took a little more courage than, say, jumping off the side of a building. It was weird to trust her safety to a tiny little wheeled board.
"Yeeeeeeeeee!"
Re: skateboarding [epe 07/22]
Which meant of COURSE Minako knew how to do it. She made a face at the helmet but put it on, skipping the other safety gear in favor of getting up to the top of the halfpipe NOW so she could skate.

talk to/interact with anyone or anything else [epe 07/22]
Re: talk to/interact with anyone or anything else [epe 07/22]
"Excuse me," she called out. "I don't wish to be rude, but I've never seen anyone like you before. Please let me know if I'm staring and making you uncomfortable?"
And then she plunked herself down in the middle of the yard to watch in fascination.
[Kathy would be happy to talk to anyone!]
Re: talk to/interact with anyone or anything else [epe 07/22]
Her voice was soft and smooth, light but not quiet. She was beautiful and looked like she definitely knew that.
Re: talk to/interact with anyone or anything else [epe 07/22]
Kathy struggled to remember what her old fantasy books had said about interacting with the Faire Folk--not that she was even sure these counted, but it was the best she had to go on.
"Is there something I can call you?" she asked carefully, trying not to give offense. "I'm Kathy."
Re: talk to/interact with anyone or anything else [epe 07/22]
The other nymphs didn't appear to be around but there were many. Ramon often tried to flirt with them which amused them but it was nice to have a conversation with someone who didn't try and flirt.
"Perhaps people stare at you because they find you beautiful? Or they're interested in you but don't know how to approach? Why couldn't that be it?"

Actually, the same could've been said for just about everything here. But. Chupacabra.

He couldn't discern friend or foe so he was being cautious.

She made no sudden moves, just watched.

At least Artemis hadn't followed her to class today, since it was off-island, and Minako didn't have to worry about a lecture about hanging out with things that might-or-might-not be able to tell if she wasn't totally Earth-base human later when no one else was around.
Since she'd worn herself out skateboarding, she was going to flop in the grass for a bit, and take her stash of cookies out of her backpack and gnome-nymph-whatever watch.
Re: talk to/interact with anyone or anything else [epe 07/22]
"Are you a general?" one asked in a high pitched voice.

And stabbing of hostile aliens, but details.
"What can I do for you gentlemen?"
