The Library is Open (02/23)

After teaching first period, Rory toddled sleepily into the library and began sorting books for reshelving.

And occasionally pulling her arm in and out of her socket, just to see what would happen.

The library is here, and the aides are happy to help. Okay, happyish. Whatever.

Rory quickly poked her arm back into its place, and smiled. "Hi. What's wrong?"

"Hi," Angela said, frowning. "So why would someone who's not working for someone else anymore call them at 4 a.m. about paperwork? Especially if the second person has, like, been retired for almost six months."

Rory blinked.

"Marty?" she guessed.

"Yeah," Angela said, screwing her face up. "I mean, maybe it was just a weird dream, but I think he was talking on the phone to Marcella in the middle of the night. And when I asked him what was up, he said it was paperwork and I should go back to sleep. I was still half-asleep anyhow, so ... then he left for ACJ before I could talk to him today."

"I mean, can it be nothing?"

"It might be. Maybe try asking him later? When you're not half-asleep, and all," Rory ventured.

"What, you mean actual talking to him instead of dissecting stuff with you?" Angela said. Then: "Yeah. You're right."

"So how's your imaginary boyfriend?"

"He's good. Haven't seen him in a couple days."

Rory frowned, thinking of something again and blushing. "But yeah, he hasn't even seen the limbs thing yet."

"There's a limbs thing?" Angela asked. "I mean, I know Jack Harkness has this Cirque du Soleil fetish, but I'm guessing that's not what you mean."

Rory sighed. "Don't freak out, okay?"

She gave a tug on her left wrist, and her arm came neatly off. She held it up and waved.

Angela blinked.

Looked at the waving arm.

Then at Rory.

Rubbed her eyes.

Checked the floor for blood.

"Okay, we have hit a level of weirdness I can't process," she announced, then looked hopefully at Rory. "So could you do that yesterday and I just never noticed?"

"It started last night, while we were watching TV," she replied. "My arm just fell off. But I can take off all my limbs without them hurting, and reattach them again. And Cordy turned British."

Angela shook her head, as if to clear it. "Were there gremlins in the TV room, or something? Because that's strange."

"Is the skin just smooth where you take them off?"

"I haven't looked," Rory confessed. "But I'm not bleeding, and I don't think it's gross. I think it's like a doll or something. And no gremlins, no."

Angela shuddered. "I hope my limbs don't start falling off on their own anytime soon," she said. "And that yours keep just staying on when you put them back."

SAe furrowed her brow. "Could you put them back in the wrong place? Put your arms where your legs go, and stuff?"

"They do seem to be staying put," Rory replied. "And I wonder if I could. I don't think my legs would fit in my arm spots, but maybe I could reverse them and put my left where my right should go. That'd be weird."

"Ew," Angela said, eloquently. "Should you go to the clinic or something? I mean, even if there's no blood ... it's weird."

"Probably. It doesn't hurt. And Cordy turned British around the same time, so we think they're related," Rory said, wiggling her fingers and stretching her shoulder.

Angela scratched her chin. "What, like somebody wasn't happy with the play and decided to take it out on you guys 'cause you're directing? That's like something Ms. Skeeter would do, and I doubt she cares."

"We thought of her, or maybe Ms. Calendar or the Halliwells or Paige. I just don't get why," Rory sighed.

"Yeah, it doesn't make any sense. If it was someone trying to curse you over the play, they did a really, really bad job. People might even listen to Cordy more if she's all English, and you could throw your arm at people or something if they didn't pay attention."

"I did that earlier, to Jaye. She and Cam were being really, really...." Rory made a face. "Suggestive, I guess? In ACJ."

Angela rubbed her forehead. "Did I hear her say she was single now on the radio? Poor Archie. Wonder what happened?"

"And did they freak about the flying limb?"

"Jaye did. Cameron was kind of meh." Rory sighed. "She's Archie-less, yeah. I guess, anyway. Poor both of them. They were so cute together."
