Try Not to Die [Thursday, May 8, 2014]

Anakin met the class out in front of the Portalocity office with a cup of coffee and a slightly evil smile on his face.

You should have a bad feeling about that smile, class.

"Welcome to Try Not to Die," he said. "I'm Master Skywalker. This year, instead of exploring this planet, you will be exploring places in my own galaxy."

You lucky, lucky things. "Our first stop is the capital planet of Coruscant," he said. "While it's not the physical center of the galaxy, in every way that counts, it is. Space coordinates have even been shifted so that Coruscant is 0,0,0 and al other areas are based off of it. It has standard air and gravity, and it is home to 1 trillion official permanent members, with various beings coming and going constantly, as well as members of populations who don't especially wished to be counted, so the unofficial number of residents is probably closer to 3 trillion. It is the home to the Jedi Temple--at least in my time, that changes depending on the person from my galaxy you're talking to--the Senate and most major government offices. It is also almost entirely covered in buildings: Coruscant is divided into quadrants and zones, and then each zone has sectors depending on how high into the air it is. The further down you go, the less light you get and the shadier--literally and figuratively--the neighborhood becomes."

Anakin gave them all long looks. "Do not go into the lower levels. There are places that even I couldn't find you in." He pointed to Jessica. "This is Jessica Drew, the TA for the session. She also won't save you if you do something stupid." He slid his hands into the sleeves of his Jedi robes and nodded, satisfied that they understood his degree of seriousness. "I'm going to send you into the more populated, tourist-friendly areas. Follow the instructions, don't get hurt, and I'll see you at the checkpoint at the end."

With that, he stepped out of the way of the portal.

The name made sound disgusting, but Emma had eaten far worse than the stew. Far, far worse.

The yeast was kinda weird though.

Oh god. She was taking back every nice thing she'd ever thought about Master Skywalker. Which wasn't many things, to be sure, but she was still taking them back.

Karina managed to choke down the bowls of stew while determinedly not thinking about what the hell was in it. (And wondering why they had to have three bowls of it. Ugh.)

It was the beast yeast that tripped her up. She didn't want to eat something she had to chase which meant that it took a good, long while for her to get her ass in gear to put forth the effort.

She promised herself she could go throw up after class.

"Holy shit that's disgusting," Barry said making a face at the food.

And yes he did use a probe first to see if it was safe to eat.

No way he was getting the shits because of a class.

Slugs? Slugs. Okay. Some people ate weirder things, and their teacher wouldn't feed them anything that wasn't safe for human consumption, surely. Andros ate his stew as quickly as possible--it did seem to be a lot of it, though--and then, after a rather protracted chase, his beast yeast.

Edward spent more time wandering and staring, truth be told. By the time the food entered the picture, he'd long since lost the ability to grasp things correctly.

Eating was something he could do, and he was no stranger to wrangling animals - but he was not getting any of that time back that he'd lost.

The apple slug stew wasn't that bad, as long as Alana ignored the thought that it was slugs. But beast yeast? It wasn't even that she objected to hunting -- it just seemed like a lot of effort for something that didn't even taste that good.

Nathan didn't even really know what the heck was going on when the class started. He picked up fairly quickly that it was a competition but he was slow to pick up on that, unfortunately.

The food in front of him didn't look that appetizing but he'd dealt with worse. He closed his eyes and ate quickly, trying not to think about it.

Kaylin had certainly eaten far worse than this, so it wasn't terribly challenging.

After that terrifying cab ride, Kira didn't feel much like eating, so it took her a while to get the stew down. The beast yeast took even longer because the thought of eating something she had to chase made her feel uneasy. She was so not living up to this class title.
