Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 14, Period 1, 02.23.06

[ooc: Hi! I have nothing to say, really. But there's always an OOC note. Oh! Wait, yes I do. I would totally have your grades for your essays up today, but um, still missing them from a couple people. If you don't get them in by this weekend? I'm not grading them, and you're going down a grade. Letting you know. Anyway. Class Info Post]

Rory sat on Tick's desk, looking very, very grumpy. All her limbs were still attached, though, and she was nursing a large cup of coffee.

"So. Hi. Professor Tick unfortunately couldn't be here today, so I'll be leading the discussion today."

"Last class, we talked about how Justice is implemented in Fandom. Do you guys think what happens around here is fair, as a whole? Furthermore, and this isn't just in Fandom, but do you think Justice can ever be viewed as subjective? Or, rather, the way said Justice is implemented.

I mean, let's say that someone, for instance, had nothing to do with the casting of a play, and she got horribly punished anyway, because the person who got cast thought it was in the name of Jusice to curse her, or something? Is that right, or wrong? Whoever cursed this person probably thought they were doing it for the good of the school, but they were misguided. Some might argue that Justice had become more like revenge then.

Once Justice is enacted due to a personal vendetta of sorts, does it cross the line from objective, fair Justice to subjective revenge? Or is there a middle ground? Discuss. And if you want to know what I'm talking about, ask me about my arms and legs. Seriously. I dare you."

Rory scowled, and paused. "Um, and for extra credit? Give me names of people who could conceivably cast a curse or whatever. Who live here. Who don't like plays, or brunettes, or something. Oh! And Logan, I need to talk to you when you have a second. After class, if it needs to be."

Janet opened the envelope and froze. She glanced up at Marty, keeping her expression neutral.

Sam noticed the weird looks, the envelope drop and Janet's expression (or lack thereof) after she opened it.

She stopped by Janet's desk after class and asked under her breath, "Everything okay?"

Janet checked the room to make sure Marty was gone. "Everything is most emphatically not okay," she muttered too quietly for anyone else to hear. She handed the envelope to Sam. "This is something I could have gone a long time without seeing."

Sam opened the envelope, read the contents, and swore softly. "Yeah, I wasn't thrilled seeing it the first time, either."

She closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead between her eyebrows, then opened them and looked at Janet. "I assume you're going to ask him about it? Want me there?"

Janet smiled bitterly. "When is that going to stop coming back to haunt us?" she asked. A detached part of her mind wondered when the standard 'training accident' line was going to wear thing. That was a lot of training fatalities for a deep space radar telemetry operation.

"Yes," said Janet. "Of course. But we don't know if he's only been investigating me or if he's been investigating all of us. It might be safer for you to sit this one out."

"Janet, it's..." Sam gestured instead of saying the word, "it tends to have a lasting impact. Y'know, unless you're Daniel."

"If you think that's best. I don't want to leave you hanging if you need or want the support."

"I know," she said, grabbing her backpack and standing up. "I'm just so tired of dealing with it all the time. Even if ignoring it isn't really the best idea either."

"No, I want you there," said Janet. She took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly. "Maybe you can hold me back when I lose my temper at him. I'd guess in my room. I have Classics next. After that?"

"Yeah, ignoring it really didn't work well for either of us," Sam said, smiling slightly.

"I'll be there," she promised, "and I don't have any other classes today, so I can be there whenever."

Janet's grin was wry. "It was a little catastrophic," she said. "Let's never do that again, okay?"

"Thanks, Sam," said Janet. "I'll be back to the room around the start of third period."

"Promise," she said, holding up her right hand.

"See you then."

"Thanks, Sam," said Janet. "I appreciate it."
