Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Oh, there was no doubt that Kaylin was more than aware of the irony of that statement. "I suppose it is."

"So are you superduperexcited for your new classes?" Pinkie asked.

Because why wouldn't she be, really?

"I'm... not such a good student," Kaylin admitted. "Most of my teachers despair of me."

"Well that's not very nice of them!"

"I can't really blame them," Kaylin said. "I just... their classes aren't things that can do anything for me."

"Well, I'll betcha that won't be the case here! There's all sorts of neato classes! Like baking and teamwork and video games and being awesome!"

Kaylin looked at her skeptically. Baking? Being awesome? And what in all the world were video games?

"I guess we'll see," she said.

"Unless you decide to run away and go somewhere else," Pinkie said cheerfully. "Then you might never find out."

Kaylin looked shocked. "Run away?"

Okay, yes, she'd done that before, but in this case...

"I wouldn't do that! Marcus would never let me be a Hawk if I ran away from here!"

"You can turn into a hawk?!"

That sounded so cool!

"I wish," Kaylin said wistfully. "Having wings... that would be so wonderful."

"It's pretty sweet," Pinkie said, a little wistfully. "But it's not so bad being an earth pony, either. Or a human who can't turn into a hawk, I'm sure."

"Have you ever met an Aerian?" Kaylin asked. "They're like humans, but they have these huge wings and they can fly whenever they want."

Pinkie shrugged. "Nope. All the humans I've met have been like earth pony humans. I've never met a pegasus human yet."

"Clint? He's an Aerian who's also a Hawk?" Kaylin said. "I got to fly with him. I had to beg a lot and then I was really scared at first, but oh my gosh, it was wonderful!"

"That's so neat!" Pinkie cheered. "What do you do as a hawk without wings, then?"

"We investigate crimes," Kaylin said with a smile. "Not that I can officially be one till I'm 18, but that's not so far away."

"Like police officers!"

"That seems to be the case," Kaylin agreed. "It's all I want to be and they told me I had to come here and do well in my classes or they won't let me."

"You have to learn a lot to be a good police officer," Pinkie said. "At least they're not making you keep doing your classes at home, which you didn't like."

"Do you really think I'll like these better?" Kaylin asked.

"I'm pretty sure," Pinkie said.

"I hope so," Kaylin said. "School and I just don't get along."
