Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"You might be one of the first people ever to believe their big sib's warnings from the get-go," Kathy said, assuming that's what he meant. "Or did you have a friend who came here before you and warned you all about it?"

She knew a couple of people had friends and family who came to the island and thought it was a good idea to stay. Kathy didn't entirely get that mentality. She wasn't sure what she'd do if Sarah said she wanted to come and visit Fandom, never mind if she decided to stay.

"It'll be a year in July. Long enough to think I've seen all the craziness the island can throw, but not long enough for that to actually be true."

"I caught and listened to one of your podcasts when I was in my own dimension. Didn't hear much but from the sound of it this place sounded pretty fucking strange."

"Dear lord, please don't tell me people can do that," Kathy said, suddenly horrified. "I don't even know what I would do if my parents heard them. Pretty sure my mom would walk here and drag me home by the ear."

Not that her parents were much for going online and downloading random podcasts, but she wouldn't put it past her sister to find them and give a listen.

"I'd ask how you decided it was real and not some scripted scifi show, but you're the kind of guy who probes the potato salad," Kathy said. She gave his apparatus a quick once-over. "Could be more sonic."

"Yeah, well I tend to do a lot of work in the sciences," Barry admitted. "So interdimensional podcasts are really no problem for me."

"And you decided that an island that gets tears in the space-time continuum and crazy space-gangs was the perfect place to come to high school?" Kathy asked, looking a little skeptical.

Sure, okay, it was probably very scientifically interesting, but it was also crazy as all hell.

On the other hand, again, Barry probed potato salad. Maybe this was nothing new to him.

"Sounds like a day at home actually," Barry admitted with a rare grin. "Plus I don't have to keep everything I do a complete secret."

"Okay, so now I have to ask," Kathy said, offering him a grin in return. "Aspiring supervillain with hopes of one day having a lair under a volcano? Or just a traveling madman with a box?"

If it were the latter, his probe definitely needed to be more sonic.

"Okay just because I'm a genius, doesn't mean I'm going to become a James Bond serial villain or run around in a bathrobe and a phone booth," Barry said rolling his eyes. "I'm just trying to figure out how stuff works."
