Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Hm," Vider said with the skepticism of one who had been of Old Scandan stock and not that bothered by cold before becoming her own personal space heater. "Maybe. So you've gone through a time shift? That must be tough. I'm Vider, by the way. Vider Bearskin."

"Nathan." He nodded once at her. "And yes, it's hard. But, I didn't expect to be here in the first place. I just...arrived and was suddenly here and expected without any warning. That's the hard part for me."

"It happens," Vider told him, not without sympathy. "My little sibling is in the same boat." And rather distressed about it, so that also tracked. "This isn't the worst place to be, though." Most of the time.

"That's what I've been told," he answered, nodding. Jessica, he realized, would hate it here. Absolutely hate it but Arran would be eating it up.

He frowned at the thought of his brother but he kept it brief. "People are very helpful and they don't mind approaching me."

No one feared the repercussions.

"Should they mind?" the girl with the tattoo on her face to warn the general public asked, sounding only mildly curious. "Or do you only think they should mind?" And that would be the Lokiskin in her talking.

"Is there a difference?" he retorted. "Almost seems like the same thing to me."

"Well, one is about you," Vider said, "one is about them. At home, most people would think twice about approaching me, but here no one really cares. I didn't change, just...what other people perceive. And you're right, most people here are very helpful. And nice, if you let them be."

"Maybe." It was an answer he was using a lot today. That and 'I don't know' and it was starting to annoy him just a bit. "I haven't changed. That hasn't stopped people from perceiving the worst before. You go with what you know."

"People are different here," Vider pointed out. "From each other, and from wherever you came from. That's kind of the fun of it. You could reinvent yourself if you wanted to."
