Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"From Oxford," he replied, then added: "England", as this might not be as obvious as he had thought. "And yourself?"

"Oh!" Raven smiled. "My brother's hoping to go to school there. He wants to study genetics." Did they have genetics in . . . whenever he was from? "I'm from New York," she said, figuring that'd be easier to recognize than "Westchester". "Though I suspect it's probably not quite a New York you might know."

"Genetics?" No, they didn't. "And I do expect any city would have changed in over 200 years, but at least I know the location of the place on maps, unlike certain planets, and Oklahoma."

It was entirely possible that Raven couldn't locate Oklahoma on a map, and it existed in her time period.

"It's like biology," she said, hoping they had biology 200 years ago, at least. "Only focused on the little bits that make us look and act the way we do." She was probably not the person to try to explain this. "Two hundred years, huh? That must be a big adjustment. I only had to do sixty."

"I... have had to question my sanity several times today," Ichabod offered in reply to that. "I don't know how much of that you had to endure."

"Probably not quite as much," Raven allowed. "I did try to tell my assigned big sister that I didn't believe her because this town didn't match the science fiction books from my era, though. Not my finest moment."

"I trust she forgave you? I was a little disbelieving of my 'big sister' at first too, but she proved to be patient." I hope, as that is still being played.

"Does this island have any more surprises in store?"

Oh honey.

"They never stop," Raven said. "I've been here a year and it still manages to trip me up." She shook her head. "Everyone here is from a different time or a different planet or a different universe, with different rules and cultures and abilities, and everything can change at a moment's notice. And sometimes, the whole place gets attacked by vikings or bears."

"Vikings?" Because Ichabod didn't quite know where to start. "So there will be no lack of excitement?" So much for this father's plans about a remote place with few disttactions.

"We have our quiet days," Raven said. "But yes, vikings. Sometimes, I think that this place is what happens when who- or whatever controls the universe gets bored."
