Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Before I left, I was complaining to my dad about having to come here, and he told me to give it a chance," Kira said. "So, this is me giving people with magic and weird stuff a chance."

"Oh, this island is full of weird stuff," Eleanor said cheerfully. "Is there no magic where you're from? I was telling someone earlier, most of what we call magic is just science we don't have a firm grasp on yet. If that helps at all."

"No, there's no magic," she said, because she didn't know any better. "I mean, we have stories about demons and spirits and things like that but, you know, they're just stories."

"Of course," Eleanor replied. "Well, here, there's magic, or at least people who can do it. And all sorts of people with odd genetics or mutations or what-have-you. So if you toss aside your concept of 'normal' and embrace the weirdness, you'll have a much better time coming to terms with all of it."

"'Stay open minded' seems to be everyone's advice," Kira said. "I'm from a pretty multicultural place, so I don't think it'll be too hard. Especially 'cause people doing magic sounds so cool!" She blushed a little. "But probably not exciting to them, I guess."

"I think you'd have to be pretty jaded not to find it cool," Eleanor laughed. "Even if it were old hat, seeing someone's eyes pop out is always entertaining."

"Well, I think my eyes are going to be popping for a while. Do you have any cool stuff you can do?" Kira asked. "I mean, I hope that's okay to ask. Is it rude to ask people? I don't know what kind of etiquette there is for special stuff."

Eleanor laughed again, shaking her head. "I don't think it's rude," she said. "Some people might. Some places, people who are different are ... treated badly, for it, so they might be nervous about showing off what they can do. But I ..."

She bit her lip, then looked around. She tried to keep a little secretive about some of her powers, but there was at least one that had a nice visual to it.

And so she held out a hand between herself and Kira, and lifted a solitary finger and focused on it just enough for it to sprout a flame from the tip. She held it in place like a particularly odd birthday candle.

Kira held her fingers out to touch the flame, and pulled her hand back quickly once she realized it was real. "Wow. That's awesome!" she said. "It doesn't hurt, does it?"
