Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"The school was practically falling to pieces without you," she laughed. "We simply can't carry on without your --"

Wait.

"... Girlfriend?"

"....Yeeeees," Joker answered. "Did... did you think that you weren't?"

"Did you think that I was?" Eleanor asked. "You never said that I was. You'd think that would be a conversation that we would have."

Dating was far more complicated than she'd previously realized, apparently.

That... did not sound good. Hopefully it was just the whole 'new to life outside her cage' thing, and NOT her actually rejecting him... right?

"Did you not want to be?" he asked. "If you don't want this to be... y'know, A Thing, then we can discuss..."

"I don't know what sort of thing you mean," Eleanor said apologetically. "We've gone on dates. I enjoy the dates that we've gone on. I don't ... know exactly what the word 'girlfriend' entails. Did I agree to being yours and not realize it?"

She'd hate to think that she'd given him a false impression.

"Well, it's... Okay, look: I've kind of been assuming that this isn't just a series of dates, that it's more of a long-term meaningful relationship thing. I like you, and I think you like me, and if this is just... I dunno, you having fun, then we should clarify that now."

Eleanor had to consider that. "How long-term, and how meaningful?" she asked. "I am rather fond of you. I'm not ... simply kissing you to pass the time, if that's what concerns you."

"Well, I didn't think so," Joker told her. "Let's start with 'until we decide to end it,' and 'reasonably meaningful', and go from there. I mean, this is high school -- relationships only last a few months, on average. And I graduate in a year, so there's that."

"So we've an end date from the start," she mused. "All right, then. I ... do you have to ask formally? I suppose not, if you already thought we'd decided it implicitly."

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2014]

[identity profile] fly-so-serious.livejournal.com 2014-05-03 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, not necessarily an end date, if we can somehow... I don't know. It's a long way off, and who knows what'll happen. As far as formality... there's really not a formal way for doing these things, so, you know, just... whatever you want. I mean, I was going to take you out tonight for our one-month anniversary, since it was on Wednesday and we missed it, but... well, if you don't want to, I can always hang on to you present until later."

Oh, was that Eleanor perking up? It so was.

"You got me a present?"

That sounded so shallow. And yet, she didn't care.

"Anniversaries are supposed to be yearly," she added. "Anno, year. Is it still our anniversary if we're only now deciding to be ... boyfriend-and-girlfriend?"

"Okay, so the English language still doesn't have a good word for a celebration of a monthly recurrence. Do we need to get picky about it? Yes, I got you a present, and I made reservations for dinner. Do you want it to be our anniversary? I mean, we can officially backdate it to the day I thought it was, or we can just celebrate from today going forward. If you would like to be my girlfriend, that is. You seem a little uncertain."

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2014]

[identity profile] nobloodymessiah.livejournal.com 2014-05-03 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Did she? Did she seem uncertain? Maybe she ought to be more emphatic in convincing him that yes, she wanted to be his girlfriend, and that yes, she wanted whatever present he had for her.

It might take a couple of minutes.

Well, that? was very pleasant. In fact, he was now quite convinced. And very glad of it. Although anyone who'd been watching probably wanted them to go get a room.

"You know," he told her, once he was able to, "technically you still haven't said 'yes'."
