Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"They're going to find out anyway," Celia pointed out. "It's not as though technology is any sort of a secret around here. May as well get the shock out of the way."

Sensitive, Celia.

"You're probably right in that they're going to be exposed to it," he said, smiling a bit, "but easing people into it wouldn't be so bad. No one wants to be forced into doing something they're not familiar with."

"Well, of course, but it'll save them the confusion when turning on light switches, let alone when they end up in the Danger Shop for the first time," Celia pointed out. "It'd just be nice to be caught up to speed right away, I think. I'm still trying to figure half these things out."

"Oh, I think the basics should definitely be taught quickly," he agreed with a nod. "Just enough to make sure no one really freaks out at the smallest of things. The bigger stuff, like my tablet and the tiny version of me? That should be saved for a little later."

"But those infernal phones everyone is always playing with, those are like your tablet," Celia pointed out. "Except without the tiny projection thing. But still! It's still a mind-bogglingly advanced piece of technology that one could just carry around. And those are nearly as omnipresent as electric lights."

"You're very passionate about this," Will noted with a little smile. "I might not be able to dissuade you from anything, I think."

"I don't know about that. You've been able to sway my opinions before," Celia said with a smile, looking up at him through her lashes before giggling. "No, I'm just retroactively wishing for a crash course in modern technology. Though I may be getting one this summer -- I signed up for the class in mechanics, despite knowing next to nothing about mechanics."

"Oh yeah?" Will asked, interested. "I think you'll be okay. I know nothing about mechanics myself so that's really just me being supportive but I bet you'll pick things up quick and be able to change the oil in a car by the end of the summer."

"I appreciate your support," she replied with a laugh. "I don't even know why cars need oil, now, so hopefully there's nowhere to go but up. But I think it'll be good practice for doing it on a magical level -- I'll need mechanical components eventually, if I ever perform publicly."

"And, if I'm allowed to be shallow, I bet you'd look adorable with some dirt on your hands and face too," he said, shyly smiling. "You would."

Celia slanted a look at him. "You think I'd be adorable all...untidy?" she asked, her cheeks heating up a little in spite of the fact that that puzzled her.

"I think you'd be adorable many ways but yeah." He shrugged his shoulder and laughed a bit nervously. "I think you would."

"Then the first time I end up with grease and dirt on my face from playing at being a mechanic, I'll be sure to seek you out," Celia said, bumping her shoulder against his lightly. "I can't risk an opportunity to be adorable."

"Good," he said, smile widening. "I think I'd like that."
