Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Throughout the lawn, tables and chairs had been set up and scattered, some out in the bright, sunny center of everything, and some in the darker, more remote areas.

Eat up, folks! Don't let that food go to waste!

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Four (whoss nametag was glaringly white against his black clothing and was reading "FOUR" in jagged writing, the name underneath it illegible) was trying very hard not to gape like a complete idiot at the sheer number of food options before him. Abnegation had eaten because you needed to eat to survive, with no joy in the process, and he hadn't been Dauntless long enough to really break that habit yet.

He took a small slice of chocolate cake and glanced around, half-expecting someone to yell at him for eating only for pleasure.

"Four? That is a new name." That he would doubtless be saying on radio now. Sigh.

Four nodded once. "It is. What's yours?"

"Oh, I am Loki," he said with a bow that was only slightly mocking.

"Loki," Four repeated. "That's a new name. Have you been here long?"

"It is, in fact, a very old name should you ask some," Loki corrected amicably. "And I have been here for a number of years now. I feel most at home now."

With the constant invasions and near death experiences.

"What can you tell me about this place?" Four asked. "It's very different from what I'm used to."

In that all the buildings were intact and no one had punched anyone yet.

"Where I come from, most of the buildings are falling down and our city is the only inhabitable place on the planet."

Well. That was different.

"Ah." Loki gave that all due thought before continuing on. "Well, that would not be the case here. Depending on who you talk to, of course. Most come from different versions of the universe. Some from different times. Tell me, are there evil robots hunting people in your version?"

Four shook his head. "No. We're placed into factions to stop from destroying ourselves."

"When our city founders closed the walls to the outside world and let them kill each other off, they divided themselves into five groups, based on which of humanity's flaws they felt had caused the problems to begin with. Abnegation believed it was humanity's selfishness, Amity believed it was its meanness, Candor went with lying, Erudite decided it was stupidity, and Dauntless said it was cowardice." Four gave him a very tiny smile. "Which do you think I picked?"

Loki eyed him for a moment. "You remind me a bit of mine brother so I would say you chose the thing that would allow you to hit things a lot."

"Very good," Four said with a nod. "I'm Dauntless. You have a brother? Any other siblings?"

Four pointed at the dormitory. "And we sleep there?"

"Verily," Loki replied. "If you are clever, you can find a common room with food in it should someone order too much."

Because the restaurants were weird.

"Emma mentioned that," Four said, nodding. "It's strange: back in Dauntless you need to bribe the cooks to give you extra."

"I can assure you that is not necessary." A beat. "Though I am sure it would give you even more here."

Now Loki needed to try this.

"I don't think I could fathom what 'even more' would look like here," Four admitted.

"As hard has better feasts," Loki replied. "Though I am more fond of these for the cheetos."

Loki darted away to fill a plate with the violently orange treats before returning. "Cheetos."

"That is quite a color," Four observed, poking at one a little dubiously. When you grew up on boiled chicken and carrots, Cheetos were going to be shocking. "Are they sweet?"
