"So," Hannibal started with little preamble, "we have two weeks left to plan and gather things for the event. Miss Sholeh," who was no longer in the class, and Hannibal had every intention of speaking with Zhari, but that was neither here nor there yet, "had a rather good idea of using flowers. A particularly appropriate theme, given that Spring may be arriving at last."

He projected a list on the board. "These are some ideas to start with. By the end of this class, I expect us to have a workable menu decided upon. Are there any questions?"

Rilla made a face. "My mother would adore this. She goes mad for flowers in the spring."

But she never ate them.

"Perhaps you can take her some of the food from the final," Hannibal told her. "Which does she prefer?"

There were worse ways to choose which dishes you wanted.

"Mayflowers," Rilla said immediately, looking a little wistful. "My brother Walter brought her some last spring...I hope Shirley remembers. And then daffodils and violets."

"Unfortunately of those, only violets are edible. But we can definitely use some of those. See what you can find in the recipes."

"Sugared violets are lovely," Rilla said with a smile. "I don't think it actually occurred to me until now that they are really flowers that we're eating. I thought they were brilliant candy."

"They are quite lovely," Hannibal answered, smiling back. "Beautiful as well as tasty."
