Library, Wednesday

Sholeh was doing her best to maintain a calm facade for the patrons of the library. No one was going to benefit from a panicky library aide. No, she needed to be composed, collected, and helpful. The library was where people came to figure out solutions, not see a ninny hiding under her desk with her pinafore over her head.

So Sholeh set to work, straightening the research tables and tidying the books. The ones that had been deemed useless were put away, the ones that had seemed useful were set to the side, and another armload were brought down for people to look through for clues. She taped a few sheets of paper to the circulation desk for people to make notes that everyone could read. It was all well and good for someone to have the answer written down somewhere, but it wouldn't do anyone else any good if it wasn't disseminated properly.

The flying creature that was roosting on the bookcase squawked at her several times, but a few dark glares from Evan had it quieting down. He'd been sticking to her closer than her own shadow for the past several days and with all the sharp-toothed creatures lumbering about, Sholeh couldn't quite say she minded.

And--rats! Now her nose was bleeding again. There really was no rest for the weary.

Evan's gaze flicked briefly to her, and then he looked up toward the little dinosaur that was still happily chewing on the bookshelves.

"Looks to me as though they can still get in," he noted, softly. "I'm not about to take any chances."

She died too many times through these things. Not this time.

So, that would be Evan's eyes, actually throwing off sparks, right there. Never mind that Evan had fallen victim to his fair share of nosebleeds over the past few days, himself.

He made a sound that was actually pretty close to a snarl, and then shifted around so that he was standing between Sholeh and the rest of the library, one hand shifting so that his fingers were long, vicious blades, and the other...

... Reaching for a tissue to pass to her.

"He prefers concealed weapons, then?" Evan raised an eyebrow, glancing back at her with eyes on fire. "I don't have any weapons. Only me."

He just happened to be very pointy, that's all.

"... Maybe," Evan conceded, reaching for her hand with the one that handed her the tissue. "I don't like this. With everything out there."

They'd passed by a crater where once there had been a building on the way here. He'd healed fairly quickly from the zombie fish bites, and someone somewhere out there was going to probably have to clean up what was left of that bear, eventually...

"You keep bleeding."

Granted, so did he. But it was more distressing when she did.

"What caused it?"

Could she tell him so that he could stab it in the face? Or light it on fire? Or just rend it from limb to limb?

"What keeps causing it?"

Evan's mouth opened. And closed. And then opened again, and for a moment his eyes flickered and he just kind of stared at her.

"... That's a little different, Sholeh."

Just saying.

But hey, it was enough to throw him, a little.

Some Evan somewhere, the one that wasn't currently a murderdog, had needed to talk some other Sholeh out from where she'd buried herself so deeply that her sisters were worried she was going to just snuff herself out.

This particular Evan had simply obliterated the psychos on the island before they could kill her, the last time the island had been invaded.

But still, Evan's overprotective streak here was more or less proportionate to Sholeh's propensity to getting herself brutalized when things invaded the island.

"And when the bears and dinosaurs and mummies go away, I'll be less concerned," he intoned, eyes flicking back to red, though he did shift his hand back to normal. "You're not getting hurt this time."
