Valentine's Day Dance. The Gym. 8.30 pm

The gym was decorated, the DJs were playing, and the punch was not yet spiked.

Fandom High's Valentine's Day Dance had begun.

Rory made a face."I'd hope so. So in exchange for cake, I'll show you my uniform? For purely educational purposes, of course." She pretended to think. "Hmm. I'm still not sure that's enough for me to risk the humiliation of donning knee socks and saddle shoes again."

"Lots of cake?" he tried. "Um. Another chance to play in the flight sim?"

"Ooh," Rory said, eyes lighting up. "I want to do that. That was fun. Even better than driving, which is like the most fun ever."

"Deal, then," Anakin said, smiling. "You get to play in the flight sim. I get a fashion show. Everyone wins."

"And naturally, it would simply be a fashion show," Rory said, her voice low. "I'd show you the uniform and go change out of it, and then we would go study or something. Perhaps over tea." She bit her lip. "Hey, for that matter, I could show you my entire uniform without ever actually putting it on."

He put his mouth very close to her ear. "Didn't we already go through that?" he asked. "And tea would be lovely," he said in a more normal tone of voice. "I do so love to learn. Refreshments are just a bonus."

Rory's brow creased, and she leaned forward to whisper in his ear, tall enough thanks to her heels that she didn't need to do her normal tippy-toe dance.

"Go through what?" she asked, completely missing the point. "And damn, now I need to get tea somewhere."

"The part where you pretend you're not going to wear it," he murmured, spinning her slightly away from the crowd on the dance floor.

"And you don't need to buy tea," he said.

"Hm. Who's pretending? Seriously, I could just lay out the various pieces, since it's an educational experience. I fail to see why it has to be on me for that," Rory replied, managing to not trip over her feet by some miracle.

"And if I mention a desire for tea in my next email home, it will magically appear in a Fed Ex box the next day."

"Hmph," Anakin said, sticking his lower lip out. "I'm pretty sure I can't get the full experience without seeing it on. And not on me," he added quickly.

"Truly this Fed Ex is a wonderous thing, then," he said with a smile.

"It wouldn't fit you anyway," Rory said practically. "The skirt's kind of short on me as it is. I had a growth spurt last year. And yes, Fed Ex is very mystical. Though much more so when it doesn't involve tea, because needless to say, it's not my caffeinated beverage of choice."

Anakin's mind went to a very happy place for a moment. It would be pretty obvious by the doofy smile on his face.

"Um," he said, finally tuning back in. "But you'd never run out of coffee."

"Having fun there?" Rory asked with an arched eyebrow. "Where'd you go just now?"

Anakin blushed. "A place with you in a short skirt," he murmured.

He noticed the song was coming to an end and he pulled her just a little bit closer.

Rory was okay with that. Even if she was a bit red.

"Are you trying to hold me like a someone broken?" she asked quietly, grinning a little stupidly.

Anakin snickered. "Why yes I am," he said. "If I knew what that meant."

"No idea," Rory said. "I think it has to do with standing in the wind and being brave like soldiers, though."

"This song really is kind of pointless," Anakin said. He leaned closer. "But I love the chance to dance with you."

"But it's so earnest," Rory said, her fingers lightly touching his braid. Quite possibly by accident, as she would tell anyone who asked. "And I love dancing with you. Even if I'm kind of spastic."

"I can only handle so much earnest," Anakin commented. His hands gave her waist a gentle squeeze. "And I can't think of someone I'd rather dance with."

"And the lyrics - you don't think they're addictively funny?" Rory continued, beaming as the song wound down. "And I personally was holding out to dance with this amazingly handsome Jedi guy I know, but you filled in nicely."

"Maybe a little," Anakin conceded. "But you never heard me say that."

He gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Sorry that Obi-Wan couldn't make it, then," he teased. "Thank you for the dance."

"Say what?" Rory asked with an exaggerated wink.

She blushed darker, glancing from side to side at the crowd around them, and smiled when she saw no one obviously observing them. "Woe," she said. "Maybe you should grow a beard to look more Obi-Wanish, though I suspect that might send Parker into a tizzy. And you are very, very welcome."

Anakin grinned. "I think I'll pass on the growing a beard. And even Obi-Wan looked stupid with the Padawan haircut. I could find an old holo of it and ruin him for Parker forever."

"She'd be so sad. And then there'd be denial, since I think she's even better at that than I am. Though, really, I don't think the haircut is stupid-looking," Rory said encouragingly. "Interesting and strange, but not stupid." She looked down shyly. "But then, you knew that."
