The gym was decorated, the DJs were playing, and the punch was not yet spiked.

Fandom High's Valentine's Day Dance had begun.

He gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Sorry that Obi-Wan couldn't make it, then," he teased. "Thank you for the dance."

"Say what?" Rory asked with an exaggerated wink.

She blushed darker, glancing from side to side at the crowd around them, and smiled when she saw no one obviously observing them. "Woe," she said. "Maybe you should grow a beard to look more Obi-Wanish, though I suspect that might send Parker into a tizzy. And you are very, very welcome."

Anakin grinned. "I think I'll pass on the growing a beard. And even Obi-Wan looked stupid with the Padawan haircut. I could find an old holo of it and ruin him for Parker forever."

"She'd be so sad. And then there'd be denial, since I think she's even better at that than I am. Though, really, I don't think the haircut is stupid-looking," Rory said encouragingly. "Interesting and strange, but not stupid." She looked down shyly. "But then, you knew that."

Anakin blushed too. "Well, I wear it well," he said, yanking at his braid.

He reached for her hand. "I suppose we should go say hello to everyone, huh?"

"Probably'd be good," Rory agreed, skeptically looking at his hand before taking it. "Amazing what you can get away with under the guise of a dance," she murmured.

Anakin gave her a quick smile. "Isn't it?"

He planned to let go of her hand once they started talking to other people, but for now he could still get away with it. So he was going to.

"It is. I mean, if nothing else, I suggest you go read what's written in some of those conversation hearts," Rory remarked casually, happy to be holding his hand.

And yes, she was planning to let go as soon as there were people close enough to notice. Which there weren't, yet.

"No, they're kind of illegible, actually. But I was putting initials and stuff in them," Rory said. "I know I did one for Angela and Marty, for Parker and Jarod, Professor Skeeter and her husband, and a few others."

She smiled. "And if the first letter of the alphabet and eighteenth magically found themselves in the same heart...nothing can be done about that, really."

Anakin paused for a moment and counted out the letters in the English alphabet before he could figure out what Rory had done. He gave her a kind of appalled smile. "You didn't."

"I support Professors Skeeter and Autolycus's secret romance," Rory said, deadpan. "And honestly, if I hadn't done it, Angela or someone else would have."

"And like I said, could mean anything. I mean, could be...um...." Rory bit her lip. "Rose and Anders. Yes. Clearly that's what I meant, anyway. And what I'll be telling anyone who asks."

He gave her hand a squeeze before finally dropping it.

"Exactly," Rory nodded. "I mean, sure there's Cally, and I think Rose is kinda sort of dating Jarod - " She stopped. "By the way, are you busy Sunday?"

"We're finally having a meeting for Into the Black around 1pm, but other than that I don't have anything going on," Anakin replied. "Why?"

Rory shrugged. "Parker sort of invited us to a thing. A movie thing, actually, at the...um, place where Becky works. With Parker and Jarod, and maybe some other people. I'm pretty sure it'd be okay if we turned up after your meeting. Um, if you want to go, that is."

Anakin blinked. "Parker invited us to watch movies at a brothel?" He snickered. "Yeah, count me in, if it's okay that I'd be running a little late."

"I think it's like, an all-dayish thing, so it shouldn't be a problem," Rory said, flushing. "And yes, brothel. Let's not talk about that part. Or that one of the hookers looks like me and throws sharp things. Though Parker said she'll be on good behavior, apparently."

"I'm pretty sure Parker can make just about anyone listen to her," Rory replied. "Plus, Jarod's nice and I guess he lives there, so maybe he can help with the non-stabination."
