Ethics [Tuesday, October 22, 2013]

"Welcome back," Anakin said as he entered the classroom. "I hope your breaks were relaxing and productive and now you're ready to learn with new vigor...especially since you have a pop quiz today."

Because Anakin was sometimes evil.

He passed out sheets of paper. "No talking, no comparing answers...you have 40 minutes to complete the exam."

He sat back behind his desk and waited for the grumbling to settle down.

Flick was so, so not in the mood for a quiz today. He was in pain, his mind was on other things and he was exhausted. So, he wasn't going to apologize if he accidentally got a little flippant on any replies here.

For the first question, he picked: lie. And then added, and it would be the most outlandish and ridiculous lie I could think of.

[identity profile] notacokeperson.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Karina scowled at the question because, seriously, as if her life would go terribly. She wouldn't let it.

But, ugh, if push came to shove: I'd tell the truth, she wrote, because lies always come out.

In about a year, Cordelia would be totally and completely lying in a situation like this.

But she wrote, I won't need to lie, my life is going to be fantastic.

Duh.

Chaz considered this before scribbling down an answer. Not lie, but keep things vague and upbeat. If you can't recognize them, then they probably aren't someone who wants to hear about what your life has actually been like.

Just imagine there was a shrug before Emma's answer, Anakin.

Probably.

I tell the truth in excruciating detail. Maybe this person can help me out. If not, he learned to watch what he asks for.

Re: Question 2

[personal profile] flickofthewrist 2013-10-22 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Flick rubbed his forehead with the arm that wasn't useless. He sighed.

I can't wait to try:
1. Going back to sleep.
2. Going bra shopping.

I would never do:
1. Leave any evidence behind that this happened.

Re: Question 2

[identity profile] notacokeperson.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh hey, something she had experience with. Not happily, but it wasn't like the island gave a choice or anything.

I don't want to try anything. And I would never, ever take a picture of myself.

Okay, so, there were other things she wouldn't do but that was the one she picked to write down.

Re: Question 2

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not even funny. I put a lot of work into me, and messing everything up by changing my gender all willy nilly just throws everything off. There's nothing I'd want to try, and in fact I think there should be some kind of warning for when this is about to happen so people can be prepared.

Who questions the ethics of the island? Think about it.

It was possible Cordelia missed the point of this.

Emma frowned. That was kind of personal.

That's kind of personal.

Re: Question 2

[identity profile] notyetplatypus.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Chaz's first response was not something he was writing down, though probably nowhere near as dirty as a lot of other people were thinking. I would figure out the new ways my body works while freaking out. Which was actually close to his first thought. I would probably not leave the room..

Re: Question 2

[identity profile] notapredator.livejournal.com 2013-10-23 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I can't wait to try leather pants that will accommodate my new body, because mine definitely aren't going to work. And probably that whole urinal thing guys get to use.

I'd do my best to avoid getting kicked in the newly grown area.

Re: Question 3

[personal profile] flickofthewrist 2013-10-22 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This sounded almost similar to what he was dealing with right now.

I find my family member and send them on their way. Get them to safety. And then I find the person that kidnapped them and make sure they don't do it again.

If I remember, I'd call the cops sometime in there.

Re: Question 3

[identity profile] notacokeperson.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
This test was terrible. Karina hesitated over it for a long while, doing the last question before coming back to this one.

Of course I'd be involved, she wrote slowly, I'd be cooperating with the police and doing my best to give them any information they would need.

Because she wasn't a vigilante. A Hero worked within the boundaries of the law, not around them.

But because she was a Hero, Karina knew they might send her in, if such a situation occurred. It would mean breaking her secret identity, but the ratings would be fantastic and she doubted her manager would refuse the additional--and excellent--publicity.

Ugh. The more she thought about this question, the less she liked it.

It took her even longer to decide to write out the next part of her answer. If, for some reason, the police were unable to help, I suppose I would do my best to get them back myself. I don't know how it would go. Probably badly.

Karina studied her answer carefully before tucking her pen away. It wasn't like she mentioned who it would go badly for. That made it a safe enough answer.

I call the police and they fix it.

Ethics was easy.

Re: Question 3

[identity profile] notyetplatypus.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Chaz winced and chewed up his pen some more. Strangely enough, this was too close to actuality.

Come up with a plan to get them out without anyone noticing that I was ever involved.

Re: Question 3

[personal profile] shippedtomaine 2013-10-22 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Emma lacked close friends and family members.

Rescue them, I guess.

Re: Question 3

[identity profile] notapredator.livejournal.com 2013-10-23 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I track them down, set a trap for the kidnappers in their own home base, take them down, save the day.

There are mines and stealth field generators involved. I'm not getting into specifics, but trust me, I have this down to a science.

Re: Question 4

[personal profile] flickofthewrist 2013-10-22 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Flick snickered at the question.

Sure. As long as I get what I want, I'll deal with the catch. Easy.

Re: Question 4

[identity profile] notacokeperson.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Skipping the third question, which she'd go back to after, Karina almost laughed when she got to the last one.

Um, yeah. I totally would. I can deal with a catch.

She knew that no one knew what she did back home but--seriously, hadn't she already done that?

Re: Question 4

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
This was how bug people got let into houses under the guise of selling makeup.

"Everything I've ever wanted" includes a life without a catch so I think I'm good to take the offer.

Re: Question 4

[identity profile] notyetplatypus.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Chaz didn't even hesitate. No. There are too many possible catches that can come up that would make it completely not worth it.
shippedtomaine: (Should've reconsidered these actions)

Re: Question 4

[personal profile] shippedtomaine 2013-10-22 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Did Anakin think they were completely stupid? There was only one possible answer.

No. Guy sounds completely sketchy.

Re: Question 4

[identity profile] notapredator.livejournal.com 2013-10-23 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
I've got a feeling that what I want, what this creepy old guy thinks I want, and what he wants are three different things entirely. So I listen to his offer, take some time to consider it, actually find out how many charges the creep has to his name, go back, gas him, drag him to local law enforcement, and collect my reward.

In the end, he'll have given me exactly what I wanted after all.
