Parents' Weekend Evening Event - Saturday Evening Sock Hop

The student council folks had discussed events for Parents' Weekend and decided upon a sock hop at the community center.

So, the whole place was now kitschily appropriately decorated and very glittery, the refreshments were set out, and the music was playing.

There was also a large box of socks at the doorway, for those who felt their socks were too threadbare or too boring, who didn't have any socks, or who came from a world where socks didn't exist. None of the socks matched. Some seemed to be made of extremely odd materials. Some had capes and/or toes (not always five). Most were interesting color combinations. Nearly all had googly eyes that seemed to actually be looking around at things.

Hopefully they were at least good dancers?

Gert was under no circumstances going to dance around in her socks at this thing, and she surveyed the room with a truly impressive amount of judgeyness.

Yeah, this was the school she had only yesterday described as "not completely terrible." Maybe she needed to rethink that.

The last time Fandom had hosted a sock hop, Topher had managed to get punched in the face, but he didn't think that was going to happen tonight. But the night might surprise him.

He selected a truly dorky pair of socks and shuffled over to find some food. Maybe something jello-based.

Jim didn't know why he was here since he figured Pike would find him and glare at him some more. He probably should have been hiding but that would have been a wuss thing to do. He wasn't afraid of Pike.

Yes, he was.

He was hanging out against one wall, drink in hand and keeping an eye out for any stern looking Starfleet captains or anyone else that he might wanna talk with.

There was, during a very brief window of the evening, a sullen, expressionless April wallflowering it up near a punch table, wearing mismatched socks (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__V6K14QXBMo/SQpX2--GKeI/AAAAAAAAAi8/ydFv_6yoaKY/s1600-h/P1010089.JPG).

She was here for the hopefully-spiked punch and some food before she started her bar shift. Not to make new friends.

Unless they were hot.

Hannibal had socks. They were very good quality, comfortable, and utterly boring. It felt rather odd being out in them, but he was still here, ready to meet any of his students or their families that came by.

Dr. Brockton had to be amused by the decor. Even if he hadn't quite gotten a handle on this school and Theo's adjustment to said school, he couldn't doubt that they seemed to take care of their students.

He came in quietly, watching the crowd and making mental notes every so often.

There was an older man in a nice, black suit perusing the refreshments to see if any were worthy of his attention.

Apparently just the chips so far.

You got lucky, Fandom.

Theo was going to let Dr. Brockton do whatever he wanted to do while he hung around the food and drinks. The weekend hadn't been bad so far since he hadn't been talked to death but he was still wary.

"A sock hop?" It was just so quaint and not at all Hannibal.

"Well, perhaps not a waltz." Hannibal shrugged. This was far from the oddest thing he'd seen or done here. He wondered if Alana had met any of the non-humans on the island yet.

"A jive?" she suggested, trying not to laugh at the decorations. In a good way!

It was adorable and very high school.

Hannibal gave her a look. Did he look like a jiving person?

"I could maybe stretch myself to a bit of swing," he allowed.

Alana made a fake little pout at him. "What about line dancing?"

All she was getting for that was a Look. Not even any words. Did that look convey his Fucking Hell, No! utter horror? It was a very expressive look.

Alana snickered, patting his arm. "I'd never do that to you. I swear."

"I will hold you to that," Hannibal promised.

"Get me a drink and we can draw up the contract." See how serious she was about it? Do you see?

"Of course."

Instead of to the bar, he went to the kitchens, where he'd managed to stash a bottle of Alana's "private reserve" earlier. He smiled as he came back and handed it to her. "As promised."

"I knew there was a reason I kept you around." More like the reverse.

"More than one, I hope."

Well, everybody needed an audience. And Alana had an excellent palate.
