Parents' Weekend Evening Event - Saturday Evening Sock Hop

The student council folks had discussed events for Parents' Weekend and decided upon a sock hop at the community center.

So, the whole place was now kitschily appropriately decorated and very glittery, the refreshments were set out, and the music was playing.

There was also a large box of socks at the doorway, for those who felt their socks were too threadbare or too boring, who didn't have any socks, or who came from a world where socks didn't exist. None of the socks matched. Some seemed to be made of extremely odd materials. Some had capes and/or toes (not always five). Most were interesting color combinations. Nearly all had googly eyes that seemed to actually be looking around at things.

Hopefully they were at least good dancers?

Hannibal had socks. They were very good quality, comfortable, and utterly boring. It felt rather odd being out in them, but he was still here, ready to meet any of his students or their families that came by.

"A sock hop?" It was just so quaint and not at all Hannibal.

"Well, perhaps not a waltz." Hannibal shrugged. This was far from the oddest thing he'd seen or done here. He wondered if Alana had met any of the non-humans on the island yet.

"A jive?" she suggested, trying not to laugh at the decorations. In a good way!

It was adorable and very high school.

Hannibal gave her a look. Did he look like a jiving person?

"I could maybe stretch myself to a bit of swing," he allowed.

Alana made a fake little pout at him. "What about line dancing?"

All she was getting for that was a Look. Not even any words. Did that look convey his Fucking Hell, No! utter horror? It was a very expressive look.

Alana snickered, patting his arm. "I'd never do that to you. I swear."

"I will hold you to that," Hannibal promised.

"Get me a drink and we can draw up the contract." See how serious she was about it? Do you see?

"Of course."

Instead of to the bar, he went to the kitchens, where he'd managed to stash a bottle of Alana's "private reserve" earlier. He smiled as he came back and handed it to her. "As promised."

"I knew there was a reason I kept you around." More like the reverse.

"More than one, I hope."

Well, everybody needed an audience. And Alana had an excellent palate.

Awkward.

"One of many," she assured him.

"That's good to hear." He smiled. "Because it certainly isn't for my ability to line dance."
