Ethics [Tuesday, September 17, 2013]

"Ethical choices aren't always highly charged situations where souls are on the line in a split second," Anakin announced from where he'd met his class in front of a grocery store across the causeway.

It had taken Anakin years to realize that, but he was a naturally overdramatic overdramatic person. "The choices you make in everyday life will affect the choices you make in highly charged situations. If you are morally ambiguous on the small stuff...well, it's hard to break that habit on the big things."

"You will each face a different scenario inside the store that I've pre-arranged," he said, "and then we'll discuss what you did and why you chose that."

"I'm not going to feel that bad if I take up am extra ten seconds of a person's time in line and they don't notice," Mira said. "But I don't want to annoy the cashier who has enough annoyances in their life, working a retail job for no money, and there's no good reason to annoy any customers behind me. Wait, is there a good reason to annoy them? Because if they're being jerks to begin with, I have no problem being an irritant. I'll take twelve packs of gum and point out that it's multiple copies of one item if there's a good reason."

"Okay, until there's any evidence, I won't intentionally antagonize them," Mira said. She actually did like people! Her sarcastic nature just made it hard to see that sometimes.
