When the class arrived in the Danger Shop today, they'd find themselves in the middle of a divided room. On one side was a small library with computers set up. On the other side, a kitchen. Kitty was going somewhere with this, seriously.

"And this class would be ont he care and feeding of bamfs," she began, ignoring the bamfs running around between people's legs. "Literally on the feeding part. When you have a pet who doesn't exactly fit the norm, you might end up struggling a little to figure out what you're supposed to feed them. Or, if you're taking care of someone who transformed, you might find out that they're supposed to be eating say, small rodents, or something. If you're squeamish about feeding them that- and not to judge, but you kind of should be- or if you don't want to deal with them yelling at you later about feeding them a mouse or whatever, you have to find alternatives.

"That's what you're going to be doing today. Because programming is a lot of fun, I made sure that between the books and the computers here in the library area, you should be able to find some information on what you can feed your bamf to keep them happy and healthy. I made sure to vary what information you'll find where, so there's not a rush for a certain book and everyone's not trying to get at the same food. And once you've done that, you have to find it in the kitchen- or make it, if you have to- and give it to your bamf. Easy, right? So if there aren't any questions, get to it. Oh, and Stiles, come see me after class?"

She thought she should maybe tell her class that they couldn't just cheat and order a pizza in this situation in real life, but felt like that would be a betrayal.

For once Stiles didn't feel completely intimidated by being asked to stay after class. Which was awfully naive of him considering one of the nicest teachers he had ever met was killing people for ritual sacrifices. Oh well, live and learn.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Hey," she said with a little smile. "So, Derek's worried because you hugged him and called him awesome, so he thought I should talk to you."

She did realize how this sounded, yes.

Stiles did not look surprised by that. At all. "Derek's a dumbass sometimes."

"Yeah, he is, but he also said you'd just been home, so I wanted to make sure everything's okay," she said.

"Well of course things aren't okay," he said. "I told him that another one of my friends died--killed by the alpha pack."

Not technically true, but they were responsible for it.

"Oh, god, I'm sorry," she said, frowning. "That really, really needs to stop already." Which was understating it but seriously, Beacon Hills.

"I figure it's going to get worse before it gets better," Stiles said with a shrug of his shoulder. "I'm more worried about Derek, the one where I'm from. He was close to Boyd."

"Hence the hugging?" she guessed.

"Partially," he said. "There was some other stuff that I can't really get into right now. For one thing, I don't know how accurate it is, and if it is accurate then it's really, really personal to Derek to the point where I feel guilty knowing about it."

"Ah. I won't ask," she promised. "I'm just... sorry things are sucking so hard."

"It's fine," he said, with a wave of his hand. "Things sucking has been the status quo since this whole werewolf thing started happening to me."

"Yeah, I guess." Kitty was still going to worry, though, so there was that. "When did you even go back?"

"Kind of ran away Sunday night as soon as Scott called me," Stiles said. "I was looking for an excuse to not be here anyway."

"Can't exactly blame you." Since it wasn't like Kitty hadn't thought of that, but getting off the couch to book a Portalocity trip was really hard at the time. "I think a break from the bad stuff is needed once in a while."

"Seems like I'm getting hit by bad stuff on both sides some of the time," Stiles said. "Last weekend wasn't, like, soul crushingly terrible at least, just awkward. Derek wasn't too weird about it this time."

"He didn't order me out when I teased him about the stripping," Kitty mused. "And yeah, in the grand scheme of things, having a demon in you isn't that bad for this place..."

"Carl I could deal with, though I am sorry you had to deal with that," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "I just thought it'd be awkward 'cause Derek and I...you know. Again. A couple of times."

"I was kind of wondering about that, with some of what Carl said," she admitted. "Maybe the hugging subverted the awkward?"

"Oh god Derek was so confused when I hugged him, it would be funny if it weren't so sad," Stiles said, huffing out a laugh. "I'm really tired of freaking out about Fandom stuff that doesn't really matter so I'm glad we skipped over it."

He was glad Kitty wasn't a werewolf and couldn't hear his heart beat stutter over the words 'doesn't really matter'.

Yeah, Kitty was not the person who'd agree this stuff didn't matter, and she hoped that didn't show too much on her face. "Well, it's good you can just move past it like that. And that Derek went along with you on that."

"He didn't go along with it as well as I hoped since he was worried enough to make you talk to me," Stiles said, shaking his head.

"I think that came from the hugging and awesome," she told him. "Considering my first thought was 'Oh god is Derek dead?'"

"No, that was a few weeks ago we thought he was dead," Stiles shared. "Turned out he was having some romantic rendezvous with his new girlfriend instead of telling everybody he was alive, the asshole."

"...Tell me you got to smack him for that," Kitty said. "I mean, go Derek, but smackings."

"I'm being told I should be happy for him because he found love." Stiles was not happy.
