Introduction to Archaeology, 5th Period
The TV is once again in pride of place, and there's a different selection of snacks and soda.
"Okay, today, we're going to be watching Time Team: Live in Canterbury," Daniel explained. "Time Team is a popular British show, which deals with the process of field archaeology in the UK.
A bit of background on Canterbury. It's a cathedral city in south-east Kent. It's home to the Archbishop of Canterbury, who is the primate of the Church of England.
In Latin, it was known as Durovernum Cantiacorum, and it lay at the junction of roads from three of their ports; Regulbium (Reculver), Dubris (Dover) and Lemanis (Lympne)
The Cathedral was where Thomas a Becket was murdered in 1170. After this, Canterbuy became a major pilgrimage site, which lead, or leads," Daniel looked slightly confused at the tenses. "Chaucer to write The Canterbury Tales.
Okay, I think I've talked enough."
The lights were dimmed, and the show started.

Watch and discuss the film
Ignore any resemblence the host (http://www.unofficialtonyrobinsonwebsite.co.uk/) may bear to that bloke who works at All and Sundries in townRe: Watch and discuss the film
[[ooc: The mun may have seen an episode of this show from another site and while it wasn't exactly garbage I was not exactly impressed at the producers attempts to interject some "drama" into the dig. If this is that show, Pippi feels pretty much the same way.
Re: Watch and discuss the film
Uh. No pun intended *g*]]
Re: Watch and discuss the film
And watching the process of how the bowl was made was cool and illustrated very well what it was they were excavating, but all the drama about the bowl was completely unnecessary.

"Jack's an ass." Unfortunately, this wasn't the first conversation they'd had that started this way.

And his dryer must be broken--the shoulder of his shirt was damp. She should look into fixing that. She chuckled, wetly. "Until a few minutes ago, I was actually okay with it."
Re: after class
Re: after class
She lobbed the tissue towards the garbage can. "But enough about me. I haven't seen you in forever. What's going on?"
Re: after class
"Uh, the usual really," he said. "I cooked for Janet on Valentine's Day, and didn't poison her, so that's always good. Was called back to the SGC last week to help save the world again. Tried to catch up on some of my journal reading, which didn't go so well. The boring life of Daniel Jackson, I'm afraid." He just grinned, seemingly quite happy with his boring life.
Re: after class
"I know," she said, wincing slightly at the mention of what Janet and Daniel had gone through. At least it wasn't that bad. It was good to get some perspective on the situation. "And I do know. It wouldn't be the first time I've borrowed your shoulders, would it?"
She laughed and turned her head to the side, looking up at him. "Yes, not poisoning Janet is definitely the way to go if you're trying to make a favorable impression. Wait, you had to help save the world again? What happened?"
She sat up straight, expecting a full
handwaveyrundown. "And you wouldn't know boring if it bit you."Re: after class
"And there were no rings, and no freaking out." He sounded proud of himself there.
Daniel
handwavedthe rundown involving an Ancient artifact. He grinned. "I don't know. I think I could learn to like boring. A nice house in the suburbs somewhere. A family."Re: after class
"Well, I'm glad that turned out okay, though I really wish they'd give us the head's up when stuff like that happens," Sam said after he'd finished his explanation. "You? In the suburbs?" She started giggling.
Re: after class
"It's a good team there. As long as you don't know that something's happened, then they're doing their jobs correctly," he said. Daniel pouted. "It could happen. I could be a stay-at-home dad quite happily."
Re: after class
"I know how it works," Sam muttered, "I just wish it didn't seem like they'd forgotten us completely out here. Our bodies may be younger, but our brains aren't." She hugged him again. "I'm sure you could. Just you, your kids, and a whole bunch of dusty artifacts they keep trying to eat."
Re: after class
"I'm sure they've not forgotten you," he said. "Maybe they think it's easier if you don't have the weight of the world continually on your shoulders. It'll give you a chance to live this part of your life over again without all the difficult questions you'd be getting back at Cheyenne."
"Ah ha," Daniel said triumphantly. "That would be what the office would be for. The locked office!"
Re: after class
She giggled again. "Okay, right now? You're too cute for words. And you're no better about remembering to lock your office than I am."
Re: after class
And I'll try and keep you in touch, whenever they drag me out there to translate something."
He blushed slightly. "Thankfully, opening doors will be beyond them for the first few years," he nodded. "And I will have to learn."
Re: after class
Sam nodded. Yeah, too cute. "You will. Especially since I bet any kids of yours
and Janet'swill have a tendency to get into stuff that looks interesting. I predict a very high curiosity factor."Re: after class
But if you made me choose between here and there, at the moment, I'd pick here."
Daniel looked thoughtful. "Yes, that is true. Although maybe I'd be able to teach them early not to touch Daddy's artifacts..."
Re: after class
Outright laughter now. "Good luck with that, Daniel. Seriously." She'd have to share that with Janet and Elizabeth sometime. Or maybe just Elizabeth, since Janet would probably run for the hills if she were to think about kids right now. "You're how old? We can't get you to stop doing it."
Re: after class
Daniel pouted. "That's why I'm going to train them from a young age," he insisted.
It was entirely possible that Daniel needed more experience with children.
Re: after class
Sam kept right on laughing. Yep, she'd definitely have to share this gem with someone. Once she recovered, she got out of the chair and hugged him again. "Thanks, I needed that. I'm gonna go, but don't be a stranger, okay?"
Re: after class
He hugged her back. "I'll try not to be. And remember, if you need me - day or night, you know where I am."
[[ooc: I now have such a great desire for Daniel to have to babysit a small child for the weekend or something...]]
