Introduction to Archaeology, 5th Period

The TV is once again in pride of place, and there's a different selection of snacks and soda.

"Okay, today, we're going to be watching Time Team: Live in Canterbury," Daniel explained. "Time Team is a popular British show, which deals with the process of field archaeology in the UK.

A bit of background on Canterbury. It's a cathedral city in south-east Kent. It's home to the Archbishop of Canterbury, who is the primate of the Church of England.

In Latin, it was known as Durovernum Cantiacorum, and it lay at the junction of roads from three of their ports; Regulbium (Reculver), Dubris (Dover) and Lemanis (Lympne)

The Cathedral was where Thomas a Becket was murdered in 1170. After this, Canterbuy became a major pilgrimage site, which lead, or leads," Daniel looked slightly confused at the tenses. "Chaucer to write The Canterbury Tales.

Okay, I think I've talked enough."

The lights were dimmed, and the show started.

"Thanks. I hate being so out of touch. It feels weird."

Sam nodded. Yeah, too cute. "You will. Especially since I bet any kids of yours and Janet's will have a tendency to get into stuff that looks interesting. I predict a very high curiosity factor."

Daniel nodded. "Even though I do go back now and then, I'm not a part of it anymore. I'm a visitor, which is odd.

But if you made me choose between here and there, at the moment, I'd pick here."

Daniel looked thoughtful. "Yes, that is true. Although maybe I'd be able to teach them early not to touch Daddy's artifacts..."

"I don't know which I'd pick," she mused, "each has its pluses and minuses."

Outright laughter now. "Good luck with that, Daniel. Seriously." She'd have to share that with Janet and Elizabeth sometime. Or maybe just Elizabeth, since Janet would probably run for the hills if she were to think about kids right now. "You're how old? We can't get you to stop doing it."

Daniel shrugged and said simply "Janet." For him, she was reason enough for anything.

Daniel pouted. "That's why I'm going to train them from a young age," he insisted.

It was entirely possible that Daniel needed more experience with children.

"Point." Yeah, if she had to give up Janet and Charlie, not to mention all the other great people she'd met here...well, maybe she wasn't going to be in such a big hurry to leave either.

Sam kept right on laughing. Yep, she'd definitely have to share this gem with someone. Once she recovered, she got out of the chair and hugged him again. "Thanks, I needed that. I'm gonna go, but don't be a stranger, okay?"

Daniel looked slightly perplexed at all of Sam's laughter. "You're welcome?"

He hugged her back. "I'll try not to be. And remember, if you need me - day or night, you know where I am."

"I do know. But I tend to forget." She shrugged. "You know how it goes."

Daniel nodded thoughtfully. "I do," he agreed. "So, I'll just have to keep reminding you."

"Deal." She walked out of his office, feeling a great deal lighter.
