Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Whoever worked their magic to ensure that the welcome picnics had nice weather had cut their mojo very close this time around. The weather was lovely today - sunny and hot enough to make it clear that summer in Fandom had finally begun - but the overnight thunderstorms had left puddles all over the lawn that hadn't quite dried up yet.

Still, the tables and chairs had managed to be scattered around, along with the buffet table of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, and the information table with name tags, the Big and Little Sibling list, and the list of new roommates. The only thing missing was people to enjoy the festivities!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Snow White, huh?

Toby was pretty sure that meant he'd ended up with a girl this time around. Really, though, being a foster kid meant he'd had roommates most of his life, so... as long as she didn't steal his stuff, okay.

The thought of a roommate was strange to Snow. She'd had a room to herself as a child, and no one had been allowed to share her cell. The only people she saw were the servants who brought her food and water, or Finn during his creepy visits.

"Toby?" she called out, hoping this person was close enough to hear and answer.

And he was! His copy of Cross Check tucked under his arm, Toby glanced over at the sound of someone calling his name.

The bits and pieces of memory he caught flashing through Snow's mind were- intense- he didn't really know what to do with that. But it wasn't exactly the way to start one's first conversation with a roommate, so instead he settled on a smile and a friendly "Hey, that's me. Snow White, then?"

"Yes, I am," she said, unable to hide a stare of surprise. Her roommate was a boy?

She caught herself and smiled apologetically. "This place is very strange to me," she said. "Its ways are very different from home." But given home had been a cell, she really couldn't complain.

"Yeah, I said pretty much the same thing when I got here," Toby admitted. He let his gaze drift over what she was wearing and then added, "Though- it was maybe not quite as big a difference for me."

Snow suddenly felt a little self conscious about her filthy, tattered dress. "Everyone here is dressed so strangely," she said. "I have never seen clothing like this."

Wait until she saw electricity and indoor plumbing.

Toby had arrived in a sweatshirt and jeans a couple sizes too big, so. Yeah. He knew how that went, having nothing but the clothes on your back, and not being able to be picky about those either. "We could- there's a clothing place in town. If you wanna get something," he doesn't say cleaner, "a little more modern."

"I don't have any gold," Snow said reluctantly. "Everything I own has been taken from me." She'd taken all her fancy dresses and jewels for granted until she'd been thrown in the tower.

Theo, Raven though, was a very unusual name for a girl. Maybe it was short for Theodora?

She hoped there hadn't been a paperwork mix up. She certainly could be a boy if she wanted to, but the idea didn't appeal to her in the long term.

Theo wasn't short for Theodora but she'd gotten pretty close to the right answer. It was just too bad the right answer was the one that Raven wasn't hoping for.

He'd put a nametag on himself (much to Dev's chagrin since he thought it looked doofy) and checked his paperwork quickly when he spotted Raven to make sure the names matched up.

He stuffed the paperwork in his bag and came over.

"Well, living with a girl," Ange said from inside his head, "should be a definite learning experience for us."

Dev was just laughing mischievously.

"I think we're roommates," he said without preamble. "I'm Theo."

Right. Paperwork error, or Charles decided to play a prank. Too late to morph into a male without drawing suspicion, though.

"I guess so," she agreed, a bit apologetically. "Do you think there was an error, somewhere?"

"I dunno, maybe?" Theo rubbed the back of his neck and winced apologetically. "I could...put in for a change if it makes you uncomfortable?"

"That's a very nice thing to do, Theo," Ange said, nodding her approval.

"Nice and DUMB!" Dev chimed in. "She's a girl! We wanna live with a girl!"

Theo ignored them.

The fifties "good girl" trained into Raven warred with her natural rebel. "Oh, I don't know," she said. "I'm sure we can work it out. I have a brother back home, so I'm used to boys." Charles' home was large enough that they'd never had to even share a FLOOR if they didn't want to, but Raven was nothing if not adaptable.

She was already planning how to avoid being BLUE in front of a roommate, after all. Naked was nothing.

"I'm pretty harmless."

More or less but he could try and be reassuring.

"And you're one up on me. Never lived with a girl before. Mostly lived alone."

His parents were pretty...not there.

"I promise to be patient," Raven assured him. "And if you can't stand it, I'm sure they'll let us switch later."

"So, then, it's good to meet you," Theo told her, extending a hand. "Theo Langstrom."

Alex glanced at the roomate assignment list, specifically for her name and the name next to hers. She then looked for a name tag with Anya written on it.

She'd never had a roommate before, so she wasn't quite sure what to expect.

Having a roommate wasn't a problem for her, but Anya wasn't entire sure how she felt about having a roommate that looked just like her big sibling.

"Hey, Alex right? I'm Anya. This is going to be interesting..."

"Yeah, that's me," Alex said, confirming. "Nice to meet you, Anya. I've never had a roommate before, but it should be fun, huh?"

"Never had a roommate myself either, so it's going to be something new for both. And I'm all for fun," Anya said, not entirely sure if she had doomed herself to nights of nail polish and braid making. That would be a good time to have some prior experience on having an average social life, but alas.

"I've got to mention this though: you look just like my big sister. The Fandom one, I mean. Well, the hair is a bit different?"

"Ah, yes. I've met her," Alex replied. "This place is strange, huh?"

Anya had not, for the record, doomed herself to nail polish and hair braiding. Alex didn't have much experience with a social life, either.

"It is, yeah. I promise not to mix you two. I'm good with details, I think."

If they ever trusted each other enough Anya would probably love a sparring partner. Who needed nail polish anyway?

Alex moved part of her hair to reveal a small moon and star tattoo behind her ear. "Here's another way to tell us apart."

There was also the butterfly tattoo on her back, which was not visible at the moment.

"I like you already, but I'm not playing with your hair every time I'm not sure who I'm talking to," said Anya as she grinned. "But I think it's not critical enough to create a secret handshake either. Hmm."
