Flight- Monday- 3rd period

By third period at least, the Danger Shop had been programmed, and once again the students would find themselves in a field, with Jaina standing next to a couple of crates.

"Welcome back, everbody. We're obviously not in ships today, but you do get to use something that you probably don't get to much in your normal lives." And with that, Jaina reached into one of the crates and pulled out a jetpack. "This a jetpack. It's from my galaxy, because while I know you occasionally hear about someone trying it here, it's often terrifying. At least I'm sure we've worked out this particular technology. You're going to wear a helmet so that you can control it using voice commands. Basically what you're doing today is getting to try them out and fly around as you want without burning off any body parts. Just as long as no one crashes into each other in purpose or tries to pick midair fights. For some reason I want to get that out there before anyone tries it."

Evan quirked a little bit of a tired smile as he listened to Jaina talk, today. Jetpacks- He knew those. It would be something nice and familiar, to ease him back into classes and the second half of the semester.

The helmet part was kind of new. He let himself get lost, for a while, in poking at how it was put together before finally pulling on all of his gear.

She wondered if she could get Titan Industries to alter her costume to give her one. Probably not since it didn't fit in with her image and Poseidon Line might complain but...

It was fun to dream.

Emily smiled in anticipation, and perhaps due to the mental image of herself trying to control a jetpack.

Ordinarily Anakin would be radiating excitement over something like this, or at the very least examining his jetpack with a tech-geek's focused enthusiasm. Today he just seemed sort of . . . distracted and listless, though he did look impatient to get started.

Now THIS was more his style. Bucky strapped himself into a jetpack and promptly teetered over backwards. Sure, he was stuck with his legs in the air like some stupid turtle, but he looked cool that way. Everything was cooler in a jetpack.

Ulrik was eyeing the equipment dubiously, to be honest. The equipment was far too reminiscent of scuba gear, and when you've witnessed someone actually die due to their body being liquified by water pressure, a bit of dubiousness was to be expected.

On the other hand, Jaina had yet to lead them astray. And as he understood the Danger Shop's controls, serious harm wasn't a possibility. So, he strapped on the equipment and got ready to go.

Evan wasn't really paying any particular sort of attention as he flew around, today. Once he had the voice commands nailed down, a jetpack was really a jetpack no matter how you looked at it. He was thankful for the opportunity to use something that he was pretty thoroughly familiar with, if you didn't count every spectacular failure he'd ever had when attempting to land properly.

He was kind of steering away from the rest of the group, though. Being up in the air... it was a good, kind of calming place to go to think.

... Yes, even with a rocket strapped to his back.

So, like, jetpacks were a bit harder to voice control than she'd thought. So sue her.

She wasn't meaning to wind up by Evan, really, but that was what happened. Mostly because she'd gone up higher and then wound up drifting his way and... well... yeah. That was a thing that happened.

Karina still wasn't sure how it had but whatever. "Do you think if we use a directional word in a totally unrelated sentence the jetpack will respond anyway?" she called to Evan.

Because she could. It was possibly things like this that were making Karina's flying more than a bit erratic but hey, at least she hadn't managed to crash herself. Definite win!

"Huh?" Sorry, Karina. Evan's mind had been anywhere but on who was flying near him, today. "Sorry... I wasn't paying... You mean, like if we say the opposite of wrong? Or ask what's... um..."

He pointed up with one hand. He suddenly wasn't all too keen on risking losing control over a conversation.

If you thought Ace's erratic flying was caused by nervousness and not distraction as she tried to figure out how to smuggle one of these things out of here under her jacket, you didn't know her very well. Or were stupid. Or you didn't know her very well and you were stupid.

A bit of flying later, Emily reached an important decision as she finally managed to make her jetpack float idly around, her hair a somehow controlled mess.

"Voice commands are so not my thing."

Not that Anakin was ever cautious or restrained when it came to flying, but today he was even more aggressively reckless than usual, pushing the jetpack to its upper speed limits, going into sudden dives, banking sharply enough to really feel the G-forces. Someone had a lot of pent-up feelings to vent, apparently -- at least he was doing so well out of everyone else's way.

Here was the thing about Bucky and helmets: No matter how well the helmet was tailored to his head, he would find a way to get it to cover his eyes.

He also didn't quite get the concept of voice commands. The jetpack managed to understand "Go left, you stupid pile of crap! Do what I say! Stop sucking!" almost as easily as it understood "left" -- but the reaction time was slower.

On top of that, he was trying to crash into other students on purpose and start mid-air fights, but they kept moving around on him.

And that was why he crashed and burned faster than a Mandalorian in a sarlaac pit.

The jetpack was new to Victor but -- especially with the voice commands -- seemed intuitive. He was cautious for just a few minutes to make sure he really had the hang of it, then arced up and sped into daredevil stunts. Flying was awesome.
