Flight- Monday- 3rd period

By third period at least, the Danger Shop had been programmed, and once again the students would find themselves in a field, with Jaina standing next to a couple of crates.

"Welcome back, everbody. We're obviously not in ships today, but you do get to use something that you probably don't get to much in your normal lives." And with that, Jaina reached into one of the crates and pulled out a jetpack. "This a jetpack. It's from my galaxy, because while I know you occasionally hear about someone trying it here, it's often terrifying. At least I'm sure we've worked out this particular technology. You're going to wear a helmet so that you can control it using voice commands. Basically what you're doing today is getting to try them out and fly around as you want without burning off any body parts. Just as long as no one crashes into each other in purpose or tries to pick midair fights. For some reason I want to get that out there before anyone tries it."

Who might have been checking to make sure Anakin was around, shh.

He was around, see?

"So did I miss anything exciting on vacation?" asked Anakin as he made his way over.

"Camels on boats," she said, giving him a smile. "How'd it go?"

Not that she thought it went well just by watching him, but.

"I killed a giant space snake," Anakin replied with a shrug, and you'd think he would be prouder of this accomplishment even if it sounded ridiculous. "For all the good it did. We couldn't save Duro."

"Oh. So you got to that," she said with a frown.

"Yeah." Anakin scrubbed a hand through his hair. "I'd almost wish I could be mad at you for not saying anything, even though I know you can't, but it's not like you knew exactly what I was heading into."

He sighed. "And now Tsavong Lah's all but put a bounty on every Jedi's head. I couldn't talk Uncle Luke into letting me stay longer after that."

Also because Luke knew Anakin would have just tried to singlehandedly 'fix' everything he thought was his fault if he did stay.

"I can't exactly blame him," Jaina admitted. "It's not gonna be a very fun place for Jedi right now." Which was a seeeeerious understatement,

"As if we needed this on top of everything else," Anakin muttered, his frustration clear in the Force. "We're losing ground to the Vong every day, our reputation is bad enough, and there's enough infighting as it is without putting a giant kriffing target on all our backs."

"I wish I could be more reassuring," Jaina said with a sigh. "But I remember feeling exactly the way you do right now."

"And it's sort of reassuring to realize it didn't drive you completely thermal," Anakin decided with a lopsided grin that didn't have much humor in it. (But there was a little bit.)

"Oh, your Jaina'll be raging about it soon enough to make you reconsider that," she said, because she was still kind of peeved that she'd gotten screwed out of Rogue Squadron because of that. "Just remember my non-thermalness now."

"If that's a warning, I think I'll appreciate it," Anakin told her.

And now he was going to be watching his comm warily for a while.

"It'll be fine," she assured him. "I am sorry I couldn't warn you, for what it's worth."

"No, I understand." Anakin sighed. "I wouldn't have been able to stop thinking about it if you had."

"And there really isn't anything anyone could have done," she said, figuring knowing that might help.

Anakin just nodded, and moved in for a hug. (His Jaina wasn't exactly in a huggy mood lately.) "And it could have been worse, right?"

It was hard to convince himself of that when everyone who hadn't made it off the planet had gotten killed.

"It really could have," she said, hugging him tightly. "Everyone did everything they could do. That's all you can really ask for."

Well, okay Jacen could have started using the Force again earlier but she wasn't about to say that.

It's okay, Anakin was thinking it too.

"You'd think, eventually, everything we can do is going to be enough."

For once, he might have a legitimate reason for that complaining tone.

"Eventually," she said, and she didn't want to think too much about what had to happen for enough to happen. "Just remember, we get through this."

"I try to tell myself that. It's harder to remember when I'm home," Anakin said quietly. "I guess maybe it's a good thing I'm here, in that case."

"I'm telling Uncle Luke you said that," she said, trying for something a little lighter.

It worked! Anakin actually laughed for a second. "As long as you tell your Uncle Luke, and not mine."

Dream on, Anakin.
