Class today was different from normal. Possibly because they were in an actual, normal classroom. Possibly because of the odd menagerie of animals at the front of the room. A dog that looked like a fluffy cotton ball, a cat in a red hoodie, and an incredibly mellow baby alligator were next to Derek today. Yes, just Derek.

Pinkie Pie was letting him (unwillingly) spread his friendship wings and teach a solo class.

Yeah. This would go well.

Derek glowered at the class when they arrived. Though that might have also just been his normal look, so...

"Today we're learning about how pets can be your friends too," he said dryly. Because this was ridiculous even for his life. "Because." Oh, that was a magically sulky sigh there. "Pets have feelings and don't want to be left out on fun."

No, he didn't believe a word he was saying. But that didn't matter.

"You're going to partner off and decide what pet is best for you," Derek told them. Because this somehow related to the class subject. "Use the ones at the front of the class as examples if you don't know anything about pets."

Yeah, he was just going to ignore the indignant meow of the cat. You learn to deal with it, kitty!Stiles.

Rather than partnering off, Bucky headed to the front of the room and started berating the other pets. "Are you really gonna take this from him?!?! He's using you!!! He doesn't own you! Nobody owns you!!! Fight the power!!! Attica! Attica!"

Gummy the baby alligator blinked lazily at Bucky, one eye at a time.

Juliet already knew she was a dog person, and the smaller and fluffier the better. She kept trying to convince Puppy Joe to come over and be petted.

Emily Thorne

"A dog," said Emily without hesitation. "I had one some time ago, but I had to leave him behind. Still, I loved him very much and I can't see myself with any other pet, so if had to get one, it would be another like him." She didn't want other pet though, since she couldn't bring herself to replace Sammy.

Bucky blinked back. "Man, you are one ugly chihuahua," he muttered. "What, did you wake up on the wrong end of the gene pool this morning?"

Gummy blinked again, then let his mouth hang open, showing off his toothless gums.

Then he tried to bite Bucky's tail.

Pinkie had snuck into the back of the classroom, and was outright beaming.

She was so pleased! Derek was learning so much about how to be ~~a real person~~ a good friend!

"It's a kitty in clothing!" Rilla squeaked. "So cuuuuuuute!"

Sorry, Stiles.

Derek was just going to pointedly ignore the glee of his coteacher. For the sake of sanity.

"So what!" Bucky grumbled. He's just some loser who... hang on."

He put his paws on his hips and looked at Rilla thoughtfully.

"...How much, theoretically, would you be willing to pay in order to see me in an adorable sweatshirt? Petting is NOT part of the bargain."

"I can't get it off him." Werewolf healing had nothing on an angry cat. "You should take a picture, though."

Do it.

Bucky made no move to get away, and instead tried to stare Gummy down. Because THAT was going to work.

"AAAAAAGH! Get him off me! Get him off me! Get him off me!"

"What are you going to do with money?" Rilla wondered.

"Oh, I don't have a camera," Rilla said. "They're much too expensive!"

"...You don't know what money is for?!?!" Bucky asked, incredulously. "I don't... What the... I just... Fuh... Wha... Buh..."

He clutched his head in his paws and stared at her for a few moments, and then a new idea came to him. "Okay, different question: since you don't have any use for money, how about I just sort of... hold all of yours, for safekeeping?"

"Oh, I know what money is for, but none of the kittens I've ever had wanted money. They wanted thumbs to open tuna cans," Rilla said.

Pinkie trotted over to see what all the fuss was about. "Awww," she said, entirely unhelpfully. "He likes you!"

Gummy went for an ear next.

Mercy was here and just keeping her distance from the animals, which was probably a good thing since they freaked out whenever she got too close. Well, the alligator wasn't exactly freaking out, but it did become decidedly less mellow if she got too close.

"Pffft, thumbs," Bucky replied derisively. Being a comic strip character as he was, his lack of opposable thumbs had never stopped him from being able to hold things. "You don't need thumbs to open tuna cans. You just need a big enough hammer."

Bucky unsheathed his claws and started twisting and turning so that he could swipe at Gummy. Despite his flexibility, it didn't work very well. "Your stupid dog is trying to EAT ME!!!" he complained. "It is NOT CUTE!!! I'll sue you for this!!!"

"Oh no," Pinkie said. "My name is Pinkie, not Sue."

There was an actual rimshot.

"And Gummy's not a dog silly, he's a baby alligator!"
