Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the moddable warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

Cade was there for the free food (as evidenced by the knapsack he was filling with crackers and cheese when no one was paying attention), with an additional eye out for any cute new girls or potentially stupid rich people who wouldn't miss their stuff.

He wasn't wearing a coat despite the weather because Cade was just that stupid badass.

"Uneventful aside from the weird karking weather the island kept dumping on me," Cade said. "It's not exactly my holiday, you know."

"You don't celebrate Christmas where you come from?" Mercy asked. "I guess I should have realized that. It tends to be so big where I'm from, even for people who don't have the same religious beliefs sometimes, that I can forget."

She smiled up at him. "What kinds of holidays do you have?"

Gert eyed him for a moment as she was filling up a plate. "Good idea," she said, and swung her backpack off her shoulder to unzip a front pocket. She sure as hell wasn't going to trust the school to keep providing free food, and her budget being what it was... well. "What do you recommend?"

"What did you do, pretend to be pregnant?" Gert snarked, grabbing a couple of clementines from a bowl and shoving them in her bag. "You'd think that'd be noticable."

Unless the adults on the faculty here were completely incompetent, of course. She thought that might be possible.

The adorable seven-foot dinosaur sitting patiently right next to her. That one.

"It's getting weird how many people have asked that," Gert said, shaking her head. "She's a pet. Mostly."

A pet who was trying to guilt Cade into giving her some food, if the huge, adorable, pleading eyes were any indication. Gert rolled her eyes.
