Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the moddable warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

"There's a talking pony, so people don't want to be rude, I guess."

Mean, Cade. Mean. At least that was Old Lace' stance, given the way she was looking at him like he'd just killed her puppy.

"I've met talking animals," she granted. "I didn't know so many other people had."

"Oh, people around here get so openminded their brains karking run out of the tops of their heads," Cade replied, rolling his eyes.

"So open-minded they don't care about stolen fruit, huh?" Gert concluded. "Could be worse. I was picturing a place full of posh kids who'd sit around judging me for having a weird color hair."

Not that she would have cared. But he had tattoos and seemed to be doing fine, so hey.

"There might be some of those here too, but they don't talk to me," Cade said.

Cade snorted. "Not exactly, no. So girl with purple hair and a dinosaur, where are you from?"

"LA," Gert replied, swinging her arms. "California, Earth. You?"

"Coruscant," Cade replied. "Not Earth."

"Why're you here?" she asked. "Not a fan of Coruscant's school system?"

"Something like that," Cade said. "Fell in with a crowd my uncle disapproved of but not enough to let me live with him. Off to boarding school for me."

"Ugh," was Gert's response to that. "Like it's his business who you spend time with." It kind of was, Gert. "I'm here because a random guy with powers and a shield said I should be, so."

Weren't adults great?

"If he was so random, why'd you go along with it?" Cade asked.

"Because siccing my dinosaur on Captain America and running away wouldn't have worked well for me," Gert replied.

It wasn't like she hadn't thought about it, though.

Cade didn't pay a great deal of attention to some teachers.

She was beginning to wonder if Cade was a little dim.
