Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I
It was a new year, and with the new year came the new spring term, and Fandom High was all set to welcome its new students, along with those just returning from holiday trips home. It was a familiar setting for the latter bunch: there was the requisite bonfire, with tables and chairs scattered around it, as well as the buffet table with moldable warm food and drinks.
And of course, name tags and lists of Big and Little Siblings as well as roommates. Yep, the weather was okay for early January, and Fandom was all ready to celebrate the start of a new term.
[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
Po had never heard voices argue in his head, as though they could hear each other. Perhaps it was a Grace he'd never encountered, shared across...what sounded like three young women?
He tried not to actually look around as though he'd heard them, particularly since he was vaguely concerned about the deer that had wandered up. A deer this close to people. This Fandom was full of magic he'd never yet seen in any of the Seven Kingdoms, and he peered over at the deer.
"Bold little thing, aren't you?" he murmured, cautious lest he scare it off. The three girls arguing over him in his brain could wait, perhaps.
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
Taking a step closer to him, she bleated. And wagged her tiny fawn tail.
That was very close to 'I'm actually a student transformed into a weird animal because the island is full of whimsy and magic' ...right?
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
"Hey, there," he said softly. "Maybe you can help me find my roomm -- you're not normally a deer?"
...he'd rather intended to not actually verbalize things he heard in his mind quite this early, but perhaps he could play it off?
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
Sholeh shook her head and then pawed at the ground. Using a hoof wasn't quite as easy as using an arm to scratch out letters in the dirt, but she was careful and soon there was a wobbly bit of identification at their feet.
SZZ, because if he thought she was going to write out her whole name, he was nuts.
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
Then her thought echoed its way into her head, and he peered at the ground before slowly looking back up at the list.
"You're...Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar?" he asked, pronouncing each syllable carefully. "Are you Graced with shapeshifting?"
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
=Does it matter?= Zeela snickered. =Either way the answer is no.=
Being the mature sister (or, at least, second-mature), Sholeh was going to ignore her bratty sister and focus on the boy. She stomped on the initials and nodded, hoping he'd get that she was Sholeh, if still confused about his second question.

Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
*So, who is this guy?* Zhahar asked. *Besides a newbie?*
Good point. Sholeh raised her head again, stomped on her initials one last time, and gave the boy a pointed look. In fact, could she...ha! She could! Now there was a front leg sort of pointing in his direction.
This was nowhere near as easy as the pink pony made it look.

Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
=What does he think we want to know?= she grumbled. =Whether he's up for sliding skins or something? Come on!=
It was probably a good thing that deer couldn't blush, because Sholeh would have at that. They were too young for such things, honestly Zeela!
Instead, they were going to play charades. Sholeh would stomp on her initials and nod, then stomp on them again and do that thing where she kind of waved her hoof at him in an attempt to point. This would work eventually! Maybe. Right?
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
"Oh! Oh, I'm sorry," he said, sighing and shaking his head at himself. "I'm Po -- er, Greening Grandemalion, as the list says, but please call me Po. When you can call me anything, I mean."
Usually he was a little more smooth than this. Usually, though, he wasn't speaking to a deer who, unless he was very mistaken, was mentally grumbling to herself in the third person.
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
::Oh!:: Sholeh said, startled. ::He's our roommate! He's very handsome!::
=Humph,= Zeela grumbled. =Still a boy and still our roommate. Which means we have a big problem.=
And before Sholeh could think to protest, Zeela came into view. Which meant there was now a large, grumpy looking badger showing off some impressive claws to him.
=If you even think to eye my baby sister, just because we're rooming with you--=
::Zeeeeeeela!:: Sholeh wailed. ::He's going to hate me!::
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
Not entirely an unkind comment -- he was more surprised than anything else.
And as for whether he'd have designs on the deer-girl (he was confused about this 'sister' thing) -- that remained to be seen. Presumably when she was no longer a deer.
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Spring 2013]
As for the badger, she simply looked smug; a surprisingly easy expression for an animal rumored to give no fucks. Perhaps it was just because she'd been practicing it for this past month on Sparkle.
::Of course you don't know what we are,:: Zeela told him, having no idea he could actually hear her. ::None of you one-faces do. We're special. In fact--::
*Zeela!* Zhahar snapped. She also didn't know Po's grace, but she knew there were others around who shared that gift. *Toby could be here! Hush!*
Zeela stopped bragging abruptly and went back to bristling at Po instead. Take that.
