Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was a new year, and with the new year came the new spring term, and Fandom High was all set to welcome its new students, along with those just returning from holiday trips home. It was a familiar setting for the latter bunch: there was the requisite bonfire, with tables and chairs scattered around it, as well as the buffet table with moldable warm food and drinks.

And of course, name tags and lists of Big and Little Siblings as well as roommates. Yep, the weather was okay for early January, and Fandom was all ready to celebrate the start of a new term.

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

And now fawn!Sholeh was hanging her head. She wished she knew. It had been weeks by her count. She was getting tired of not having thumbs. Reading took so much more effort now! As did keeping Zeela from turning into a badger and leaping out to scare Sparkle.

*So, who is this guy?* Zhahar asked. *Besides a newbie?*

Good point. Sholeh raised her head again, stomped on her initials one last time, and gave the boy a pointed look. In fact, could she...ha! She could! Now there was a front leg sort of pointing in his direction.

This was nowhere near as easy as the pink pony made it look.

"...me?" Po asked, staring again. And she wasn't thinking anything about him to give him a clue, and it wasn't as though he could just ask her. "What about me?"

Sholeh was far too nice to see if deer eyes rolled, but Zeela wasn't so forgiving.

=What does he think we want to know?= she grumbled. =Whether he's up for sliding skins or something? Come on!=

It was probably a good thing that deer couldn't blush, because Sholeh would have at that. They were too young for such things, honestly Zeela!

Instead, they were going to play charades. Sholeh would stomp on her initials and nod, then stomp on them again and do that thing where she kind of waved her hoof at him in an attempt to point. This would work eventually! Maybe. Right?

...well, now Po felt like an idiot. Which, again, to be very fair -- he'd never been made to feel that way by a deer. It was a very special day.

"Oh! Oh, I'm sorry," he said, sighing and shaking his head at himself. "I'm Po -- er, Greening Grandemalion, as the list says, but please call me Po. When you can call me anything, I mean."

Usually he was a little more smooth than this. Usually, though, he wasn't speaking to a deer who, unless he was very mistaken, was mentally grumbling to herself in the third person.

Well, in Sholeh's defense, she wasn't normally a deer? So he wasn't entirely being made to feel like an idiot by your average, run-of-the-mill deer. That was...something?

::Oh!:: Sholeh said, startled. ::He's our roommate! He's very handsome!::

=Humph,= Zeela grumbled. =Still a boy and still our roommate. Which means we have a big problem.=

And before Sholeh could think to protest, Zeela came into view. Which meant there was now a large, grumpy looking badger showing off some impressive claws to him.

=If you even think to eye my baby sister, just because we're rooming with you--=

::Zeeeeeeela!:: Sholeh wailed. ::He's going to hate me!::

Po staggered back. "I'm not -- how are you a badger? I've never seen the like of you before."

Not entirely an unkind comment -- he was more surprised than anything else.

And as for whether he'd have designs on the deer-girl (he was confused about this 'sister' thing) -- that remained to be seen. Presumably when she was no longer a deer.

And if not her, he might enjoy eyeing the badger-girl and the yet-unseen puppy-girl. So many choices!

As for the badger, she simply looked smug; a surprisingly easy expression for an animal rumored to give no fucks. Perhaps it was just because she'd been practicing it for this past month on Sparkle.

::Of course you don't know what we are,:: Zeela told him, having no idea he could actually hear her. ::None of you one-faces do. We're special. In fact--::

*Zeela!* Zhahar snapped. She also didn't know Po's grace, but she knew there were others around who shared that gift. *Toby could be here! Hush!*

Zeela stopped bragging abruptly and went back to bristling at Po instead. Take that.
