Oppression, Resistance & Revolution: Friday

"I'm sure most of you are keen on leaving this class early," Magneto announced as he walked into the danger shop precisely as the bell rang. "Rest assured your homecoming activities can wait. Fun and frivolity has it's place. So does knowledge."

"Before the fall break we watch a movie," he continued as he began his regular circuit around the room. "About a man and his desire for a free country for his people. You may ask: what made that man different from others? For that I can give you a simple answer: conviction. As I mentioned before, just because you may take the option of non-violence does not mean it's going to be easy."

He gave his students a sinister grin and snapped his fingers. The danger shop swift changed from blank walls to what appeared to be a modern day protest. The only switch to this that there were counter protesters on the other side.

"Today, we're going to test your conviction," Magneto said with a malevolent look of glee. "And just see how well you can do. If you wish to bow out... you may. However that may tell me more about you than any other class you have taken with me so far."

He pointed at the protest going on and gestured for the class to join in. "Begin."

Cassidy was really not enjoying this at all.

Evan, over the past half a year, had grown to be a bit of a pro at ignoring what people were saying about him. And the fact that these ones were yelling about something as shallow as money... that made it easier. Evan continued holding his sign, quite content to ignore any slurs that were thrown his way.

Karla dealt with it in silence for a little while, but once the other people started insinuating things about who she was and why she was there...well, it was a safe bet to assume that Karla was indeed going to yell back.

At first, she contented yelling things in Eyrien, which really was a language suitable for snarling. But as their insults heated up, Karla decided to go for broke and began retaliating in a language they could understand.

Because she was the maturest and shut your face.

"Yeah, well, you fellate goats, you bastard son of a gutter whore!"

Loki just sighed, working on his sign to add some glitter. Because he'd learned the great need for glitter since coming to school in Fandom.

Really, he'd heard better insults from the denizens of the internet.

Ace didn't bother with insults in other languages, though she'd picked up quite a few in her life, and she made a note to ask Karla later to teach her some of the nastier sounding things she'd shouted back.

She went straight for the good old Anglo-Saxon stuff, with a side of AND YOUR MUM DOES TOO.

Look, she hadn't blown any up yet. That was not engaging.

Korra really didn't want to go along with this exercise, but since Magneto was a jerkbender she didn't particularly feel like telling him why, so she sat down in a meditative pose.

See, she could play at this game.

Oh no. No one had ever said anything mean about Billy, really. He sighed and rolled his eyes. Stupid people were stupid.

Cassidy ducked and tried to avoid the stuff being thrown at her -- and then remembered she had a shield and pulled up a yellow-strengthed one.

Um... ew...

Evan ducked the first squishy tomato, made a face about it, and then started kind of using the other oncoming veggies as target practice with some carefully-aimed eye-beams.

He wasn't going to hurt anyone, but projectile vegetables were fair game.

"We're tired of dealing with your filth! Why don't you deal with it for a change!"

Karla was just going to lob them right back, catching them in midair and hurling them back with Craft. "If you don't want to get dirty, stay behind me," she advised her fellow classmates and other random protesters, a shield flickering into life.

Well, the beglittered sign worked well as a shield, if you asked Loki. Which is what he was now using it as.

Just be glad he was in class.

This was just a waste of good food. Ridiculous.

Surreal caught a not-too-rotten tomato, peeled away the mold-bit, and then took a bite. She wasn't particularly concerned about getting dirty, no, and she hadn't even bothered putting up a shield. And she might as well have lunch.

Yeah, fine, now Ace went for every single word she'd ever learned from Manisha's brothers and a couple of things in Punjabi she'd heard behind the disco whose meaning she only had vague context clues for and might well just be a polite way of saying 'please knock out three of my front teeth now' but probably not.

It wasn't that she was less pissed off now; it's that it took more concentration to remember her whole catalog, and that stopped her from throwing things back.

Billy copied Cassidy, and put a shield up around himself and anyone standing next to him, to block the vegetables. That was just rude!

Cassidy was full of anger at these people, but instead of lashing out at them, she brought up her strongest shield instead. She would never be able to understand such anger and hate.

At least it wasn't Agio...

Okay, that was way more uncomfortable than the vegetables had been. Like... way more. And eye blasts weren't going to stop that much water from hitting people full-force.

Evan managed to restrain himself, but there was raw energy, white-hot and dangerous, crackling off of his body as he ducked low and took the brunt of the pressure from the fire hose.

Now that was a waste of clean water! What the Hell was with these landens?

"What, exactly, are they annoyed about?" she asked aloud. "This doesn't seem very productive."

At least it gave her a chance to practice with her Craft? Surreal spun her power into a shield tight to her body and sat down. To the counter-protesters, it would look like she was being hit with the water, but the force and the water were directed away from her. It was admittedly a decent exercise for shield control.
