Detention, 02/11

The Danger Room is set up to look like an ordinary classroom today, with slightly squeaky desks arranged in a semicircle, alphabets of many nations bordering the walls, and a flag hanging above the blackboard at the front of the room. The air smells, although not unpleasantly, of chalkdust and stale cafeteria food. In a room off to the side that resembles a formal Victorian dining room, there are a table, chairs and a sideboard from which students will take their lunch, though no food is visible at first.

The names of the students with detention are written on the chalkboard in Dream's flowing hand. He crosses each name off as the student enters:

John Crichton
Hamlet Dane, Jr.
Lily Evans
Janet Fraiser
Yuffie Kisagari
Nadia Santos
Kristy Thomas

Dream stands before the assembled students in his formal robes.

"Hello. I trust you all know why you are here.

I have been asked to furnish activities, and have done so. Likewise your lunch will be provided. Should all go well, I anticipate releasing you well in time for your evening meal. Should all not go well, you may learn what imprisonment truly is."

"Now, sign in and begin your assigned activities."

At 12:30 p.m. FHT, Dream briefly enters the lunchroom. When he leaves, a banquet has been arranged. Students may now eat, should they want to.

At 7 p.m. FHT, he rouses the sleepers and sends all of the students out the door.

[OOC note: Dream-mun has left the building for the night. I'll try to wrap these threads tomorrow. Also, minimal/handwaved participation on some activities is fine for those of you who might sign in late.]

"Exhausted," said Janet. "And I even left Rory's room early because I figured I'd have to think in detention today. But other than that, not too bad. Though I'm disappointed to miss Gun Club today."

"Me, too," Nadia says as she grabs some nachos and samoas, along with a grape soda. "I really wish I could be shooting at something today."

"I heard you lost the detention lottery," said Janet sympathetically. "But at least Professor Dream is running it. You're in Foreign Lit with him, right?"
nadiathesaint: (oh no you didn't)

"Yes." Nadia shrugged. "I guess it would have been worse if it were a teacher I didn't know."

"I think it would be worse with one of the teachers I don't like. I heard that Crazy Squid Lady ran a detention last semester," said Janet. "Trust me, you did not want to be in that one. I think she gave over half the students in it a second detention."

Nadia shuddered. "Crazy Squid Lady? What did she teach?"

"Psychology," said Janet. "Which everyone found rather ironic. And then we found out she was one of the local homicidal vampires, and she was fired. Thank goodness. No one's really sure who hired her."

Nadia's eyes went very wide. "They hired a vampire to teach here? How do they know they don't have any other dangerous teachers on staff?"

Given that there were at least two other individuals that Janet could declare both homicidal and flat-out evil on staff, she just shook her head. "Don't ask me. I think the new school administration has been checking the teachers over more carefully, but you should still be careful." Stupid classified information. "If it's any consolation, I think there are measures in place to ensure they can't harm any students on school grounds."

"She tried to kill one of the people that was helping to make sure Angel had his soul," said Janet. "Off-campus, where you really do have to be more careful. Once they found out what she was, Dean Bristow fired her."

"Does it?" asked Janet. "I've gotten used to it. Mostly."

"What're you in for?" John asks Nadia.

Re: Lunchtime

[personal profile] nadiathesaint 2006-02-11 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing!" Nadia stabbed angrily at her samoas. "It was that maldecido detention lottery."

Re: Lunchtime

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2006-02-11 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah," John says, nodding quietly. "Well, at least you're getting your first one outta the way. Next time, if there is a next time, you'll know what to expect. This is my first detention too."
nadiathesaint: (Default)

Re: Lunchtime

[personal profile] nadiathesaint 2006-02-11 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess." Nadia glanced at John. "What'd you do to end up here?"

Re: Lunchtime

"Played the mimic game with one of my professors," John says, "after she turned me into a meerkat."

Re: Lunchtime

[personal profile] nadiathesaint 2006-02-11 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Nadia's eyes widen. "One of the teachers turned you into an animal? Why would she do that?"

Re: Lunchtime

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2006-02-11 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Because she's mean? Or it might've been that I pretended I was her son," John admits, "after pretending I was British the day before."
nadiathesaint: (Default)

Re: Lunchtime

[personal profile] nadiathesaint 2006-02-11 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Now Nadia's just confused, instead of apalled at the injustice of being turned into an animal. "You were pretending to be your teacher's son?"

Americans are very, very strange people.

"Yeah," John says, shrugging. He eats a few of his nachos. "It wasn't one of my better decisions, trust me. I think I was trying to see how far I could push her."
nadiathesaint: (Default)

Re: Lunchtime

[personal profile] nadiathesaint 2006-02-11 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Which teacher?" Nadia asks, so she can stay away from whoever it is.

Re: Lunchtime

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2006-02-11 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Professor Skeeter," John says. "Teaches journalism and does the radio. Hard to miss."
