Combat- Tuesday- 2nd period- Class #2

There'd been a ~~handwavy~~ email to let the students know to meet in the gym this week. It didn't make any sense to work up a Danger Shop simulation for what they'd be doing today, and there was a fun side effect of making Jaina feel all nostalgic being back in here after like ten years.

"This week we're going to start with some actual combat, but we're still going to start a little slow," Jaina began. "Bear with me. While we're actually doing some fighting, there are a couple rules I want to get out of the way. First, if there's anything you're really not comfortable doing, let me know and you get a pass. Only do that if you genuinely aren't okay doing something; I don't want to see you using that excuse because you just don't feel like it that day. Second, use of powers is allowed only if the other person you're working with is okay with it. Third, if I ever see anyone here hurting someone intentionally in this class, not only will you be in detention for the rest of the semester, but I won't hesitate in making you cry in front of the rest of the class. Got it?" Everyone should probably just nod at this. She was sort of used to breaking rookies down when needed.

"Today we're going to be doing some basic sparring. A lot of combat is thinking, and trying to think while you've got a lot going on around you or someone trying to hit you at the same time. So I'm going to make you do that, too. I'm small," she said, like there was anyone who hadn't noticed, "and I regularly go up against people twice my size and strength. That means I have to compensate by being faster, and sharp, and there are particular skills I need to keep up. And by doing that, taking out four guys at once in hand-to-hand isn't an issue for me. So I want you all to split yourself up in groups of beginner, intermediate and advanced, and find someone else in your group to spar against. You can mix up a little if the groups are uneven. And make sure to try and figure out that this person's strengths and witnesses might be, and see if you can't use that."

Listen to the many words, talk quietly, there's padding available if you want to put that on...

Jessica put on some padding and ran through her mental checklist. Pull every punch even more than she would against normal criminals. Ignore the spider-sense, that's unfair and not what she's here for. No jumping around in an annoying way. Pull every punch. And have some fun out there!

Cade was so not putting on padding, thanks. How do you think he'd ended up with so many scars to begin with?

Anakin wasn't even going to bother looking at the padding. ~~Because GFFA parenting fail meant he had no concept of safety.~~

He was also, admittedly, not paying as much attention to the lecture as he probably should, but he figured this was basic stuff and for the benefit of the beginners, not so much him.

Find someone else in your group to spar against for a while.

And yes, the beginner group totally gets a quick lesson from Jaina on how to kick or throw a punch without breaking toes/your hand. Because that's a lame reason to go to the clinic.

Mercy looked around for another beginner to spar with.

Cassie smiled at Mercy a little shyly. "New at this hand to hand thing, too?"

"I've done some little stuff," Mercy admitted, "but nothing formal. So, yeah, pretty new. You too, huh?"

[OOC: Sorry, school was nuts today and then had errands after!]

Jessica pretty much looked ready to get things started, in a slightly padded (for everyone's sake!) and slightly conflicted kind of way.

It was better to go straight to advanced, right? There wasn't any need to assume that she was some kind of crazy superhero because of that? Because, c'mon, she'd fought two Hulks. She wasn't going intermediate, even if it would be better cover.

Sigh.

[OOC: Very slow throughout the day, I'll be around tonight!]

"You read weird science books for fun and could beat me up?" Cade grinned. "Fun combination."

Apparently girls who could kick ass was a hard-wired thing for Skywalkers.

[OOC: I miss you! SP=win!]

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves here," Jessica warned. "I don't know that I can beat you up yet. But I'm willing to try."

"You have any kind of weird powers I should know about before we get started?"

"Nope," Cade said.

Force powers don't count if you don't use them any more, right?

"Same," Jessica said, since she'd be holdimg back with her spider-powers. "Feel free to take the first shot whenever you're ready. It's not like you're going to make contact anyway."

Holding back with spider-powers didn't mean shutting up.
