Combat- Tuesday- 2nd period- Class #2

There'd been a handwavy email to let the students know to meet in the gym this week. It didn't make any sense to work up a Danger Shop simulation for what they'd be doing today, and there was a fun side effect of making Jaina feel all nostalgic being back in here after like ten years.

"This week we're going to start with some actual combat, but we're still going to start a little slow," Jaina began. "Bear with me. While we're actually doing some fighting, there are a couple rules I want to get out of the way. First, if there's anything you're really not comfortable doing, let me know and you get a pass. Only do that if you genuinely aren't okay doing something; I don't want to see you using that excuse because you just don't feel like it that day. Second, use of powers is allowed only if the other person you're working with is okay with it. Third, if I ever see anyone here hurting someone intentionally in this class, not only will you be in detention for the rest of the semester, but I won't hesitate in making you cry in front of the rest of the class. Got it?" Everyone should probably just nod at this. She was sort of used to breaking rookies down when needed.

"Today we're going to be doing some basic sparring. A lot of combat is thinking, and trying to think while you've got a lot going on around you or someone trying to hit you at the same time. So I'm going to make you do that, too. I'm small," she said, like there was anyone who hadn't noticed, "and I regularly go up against people twice my size and strength. That means I have to compensate by being faster, and sharp, and there are particular skills I need to keep up. And by doing that, taking out four guys at once in hand-to-hand isn't an issue for me. So I want you all to split yourself up in groups of beginner, intermediate and advanced, and find someone else in your group to spar against. You can mix up a little if the groups are uneven. And make sure to try and figure out that this person's strengths and witnesses might be, and see if you can't use that."

Have fun, everyone who was up with a fire drill last night!

"Not the biceps!" he said with a quick grin, moving out of her range just as quickly.

"I promise I won't bruise any prime tattoo space too much," Jessica promised as she regained her footing and followed up with a jab to the face. He wasn't going to get a tattoo there, right?

Well, he wasn't a Sith yet even if it was only a phase as you do, so face tattoos were out.

Besides, black eyes (like the one he'd have tomorrow, now) were much tougher looking.

"Nice and ow," Cade said, spinning to punch her in the kidneys.

"I didn't, ugh, even hit you that hard," Jessica grunted while turning to take the punch a little more solidly in her stomach and less in the kidney. It knocked some breath out of her, but it wasn't bad.

Since she was in close now, she gave a quick combination with a right to his shoulder followed by a left to the gut.

Cade took the punches, using their continued closeness as an opportunity to stomp down on her instep.

"Foot stomping?" Jessica said in surprise - and maye a tiny amount of pain, maybe - after Cade connected. "That's the best you've got?"

Since this was turning into a decidedly close-combat match, Jessica resorted to a classic move she liked to call 'pointy elbow to the chest.' She didn't spend much time naming fighting moves, no.

"Not remotely," Cade said. "The best I've got involves using a big freaking blaster."

"Too bad this is a fist fight," Jessica said as she took a couple steps back. "But I'll have to remember not to challenge you to a big freaking gun duel. How are you with itty bitty adorable guns?"

"Like a hold-out blaster?" Cade watched her intently, looking for weak spots. "Pretty good with those too."

"Okay, how about water pistols?" Jessica asked casually... before darting in low and kicking at his knee maybe a little faster than might be expected.

Cade's knee buckled and he tried to turn his fall into a sweep--kicking out at her legs before he hit the mats. "Water pistols?"

Ignoring the buzzing in her head and trying to spot what was happening instead, Jessica tried and failed to hop over the sweep, knocking her to the ground. "They're just like regular guns. But small. And plastic. And they shoot water about two feet."

"Why do they do it?" Cade asked, scrambling back to his feet.

"So little kid and juvenile teens can have fun with water," Jessica said, popping back to her feet it a smooth motion.

"And learn to shoot," Cade assumed.

Cade's upbringing had been a little special.

"I don't think anyone's learning the finer points of marksmanship from water pistols," Jessica said, readying herself for Cade's next move.

Re: Sparring

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-06 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe they just haven't tweaked the weapon enough," Cade said, swinging for her stomach.

Re: Sparring

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2012-09-06 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Jessica spun forward, grabbing at Cade's punching wrist while aiming another elbow at his chest. "It's five cent of plastic. Tweak it and it'll break."

Re: Sparring

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-06 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Now you've just given me a goal," Cade said, taking the hit to the chest rather than trying to dislocate her elbow.

He was a nice guy like that. Today. Apparently.

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2012-09-06 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
As a reward for that kindness, Jessica kept her hold on Cade's arm and positioned herself to flip him over her shoulder and to the ground.

If anyone asked, she would claim judo.

"You need to set more goals for te present, gun boy."

"Ow," Cade said from the floor.

Re: Sparring

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2012-09-06 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"So I guess I can kick your ass," Jessica said. "You were right."

Re: Sparring

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-06 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not twice," Cade vowed.

Re: Sparring

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2012-09-06 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe, maybe not," Jessica said. "We have a whole semester to find out."
