Model United Nations, Wednesday, period 1

The classroom didn't look like anything really special yet. The chairs were all arranged around in a wide circle, so that everypony could face everypony else, and each desk had a nice little blank name-plate and empty flag holder, all ready for the students to come and fill with their hopes, dreams, names, and knowledge of whatever country they've chosen to represent. Pinkie's desk already had "Pinkie Pie: Equestria" written on the name plate, and a tiny little Equestrian flag flying proudly. She waited patiently -- well, as patient as a manic pink party pony can be anyway, which isn't very -- while the students shuffled in and took their seats.

"Welcome, everypony to Model United Nations, the class all about working together to support each other and to solve the problems of the multiverse! We're going to get started with an easy problem for you, today: we can't start solving the multiverse's problems through teamwork and friendship until we know who everypony is! As the representative of Equestria and the official Grand Poo-Bah of this Model United Nations --" Shut up, the facilitator was TOTALLY the Grand Poo-Bah, "-- I would like to propose that we solve this problem by introducing ourselves and picking which country, nation, or otherwise independently governed geographical or metaphysical region we're representing! All those in favor, say 'yippeee!'"

You'd best yippeee, or this Grand Poo-Bah was going to make an executive order and make you all follow her suggestion, anyway. In the spirit of teamwork and friendship, of course.

"Oooo, and then we can all make flags. I brought crayons and glitter!"

Hopes, dreams, names, knowledge of whatever country they'd chosen to represent, and glitter. These were the foundations of multiverse peace.

Petra was super excited to be back in class with her favorite pony-shaped teacher...and had made sure to be heavily caffeinated enough to hopefully be able to keep up with her. If she was clutching her travel mug like a lifeline, well, who could blame her? It was early, and you didn't get to look this fabulous by rolling out of bed ten minutes before class started.

Jackson had had a decent amount of coffee after his unpleasant wakeup this morning. And... Now he was wondering whether the coffee had been spiked with something. Or if he was somehow still asleep after everything.

He was kind of staring at the... talking pink pony, yeah. And glancing over at the others to see whether they were seeing it too. He'd somewhat prefer that over being the only one hallucinating.

It was possible someone was going to have to help him deal with this.

Bucky stared at the pink horse at the front of the room. And blinked. And looked a little scared.

"Ohhhhh, boy. Does everyone else see the demonspawn at the front of the room, or did I eat some bad tuna this morning?"

Said the talking cat.

You know, she hadn't believed in the pony teacher. Not really.

Olive now had no choice, and it was taking all her willpower not to just burst into tears or laughter. It was going to be one of the two.

Karla had seen Pinkie enough times around campus, but she'd never actually taken a class with her. She didn't know why, but she'd assumed that Pinkie would be less manic as a teacher.

Bad assumption, Karla. Really bad assumption.

A fucking pony. Maeby was just going to stare at it in case this was some kind of trick, and at the end of the hour, their real teacher would show up.

James looked askance at his coffee mug, then back at the professor. Yes, a talking pink pony. He shrugged and sipped more lovely lovely coffee.

"My name's Kenzi." Kenzi beamed around at everyone. "I represent the metaphysical State of Inebriation, it's a kind of common mental state, lots of transients, we're happy to have people visit us. I picked it because I work at Caritas -- Jell-O shots are free with your new Student packet shown to the bartender on Thursday!" Tino was going to be glaring a lot. "And I'm hoping that we can agree to host the next Pan-Galactic Olympic Games in my mental state, with other people driving. We are terrible drivers in Inebriation."

"I'm Petra West," Petra said, "and I'll be representing the United States of Girls. I picked it because I believe very much in forwarding the interests of girls everywhere, such as reproductive rights, equal pay, and eyeliner that's not a pain in the ass to apply and doesn't smudge all over the place. I hope that in this class we'll accomplish some awesome things for girls. And guys, too," she added. "I just won't be representing them."

"I'm Rilla Blythe, representing Canada because I'm from there," Rilla began slowly, being sure to enunciate and not lisp, "and I'm hoping to find a way toward greater national understanding since the real nations tend to be so pig-headed."

Oh, well, if they were allowed to pick freaky countries like Equestria then Luke wasn't gonna go with Greece like he initially planned. Which was good because he didn't want to pick a country in a financial crisis.

"I'm Luke and I'll be representing Olympus," he said, hoping that counted. "My dad's side of the family rules it. And I'm hoping to accomplish...peace and harmony and all that stuff?"

Bucky stood up on his desk. "My name is Bucky Katt, and I am here to represent all Felinekind. I don't know what the rest of you schmos are gonna try to do, but I'm going to spank you all sideways, conquer the world, and make you all kneel before me."

He frowned, suddenly realizing that he should probably play down the whole "world domination" thing and pay lip service to the crap the pony was spewing. "... With peace and harmony, I mean."

"My name is Ryan, and I've never really had a home country because my parents were traveling missionaries. So I would like to represent the Federation of Stateless People," she suggested.
nomoresportscars: ([neu+] Uh huh okay.)

Jackson did not 'yippeee', and he never would. (Unless someone bigger and scarier intimidated him into doing that, naturally.) He had his hands full trying to act normal when faced with a talking pink pony, after all.

"Jackson Whittemore," he said. "Representing... Sweden. Because I am interested in upholding Scandinavian values." Or because one of the things he'd leafed through trying to wake himself up this morning had been a catalogue from the Isle of IKEA and really, you should have all been glad he was being coherent and calm right now. "And I was hoping to learn how the UN works."

"Hey, I'm Hanna," she greeted the class. "And, uh, I'm here to represent the Land of Fashionistas. I mean, fashion and clothes are necessities, right? I'm hoping to learn how to work well with others for peace or something."

It sounded meaningful enough.

"I'm Karla," she said when it was her turn. "I represent the Kaeleeran Territory of Glacia."

And felt a little weird about it. Mostly because almost everyone else was going with fun-sounding abstract ideas. She wished she was a little quicker on her mental feet in the mornings. She was kind of doubting that she'd be getting the politically useful education in this class that she'd hoped.

"I'm, umm, kinda involved in politics back home, so I signed up to see what I could learn here?"

Karla, make that sound like less of a question, could you?

"Olive Penderghast," she said with a little wave. "And I'm...representing the United Federation of Underdogs. Because someone should, really -- kind of the nature of the beast that they're an unsung people, right? And um. Honestly, I sort of picked this because it sounded like something I'd do back home, so...I guess I'd like to learn about other countries?"

Yeah, let's enumerate the ways she'd been so wrong?

Petra crafted a very glittery flag with a pink Venus symbol on it to represent the United States of Girls. She thought about putting a tiara on it, too, but decided that since the United States of Girls was a democracy that wouldn't be quite right.

"Excuse me, Miss Pie? I think I would make a pretty good TA," said Ryan. "I've lived in so many different countries, so I have some experience with reaching across different cultures." There was no way she was saying Lesser Poo-Bah, though. She wouldn't be able to do it with a straight face.
